Inclusion Tech Tip
Tired of hunting special characters to spell words from a variety of languages correctly?
Add Easy Accents Add-on. They offer a docs and slides version
🎶 Attention Music Teachers! 🎶
Padlet Alternatives
The remaining district provided Padlet backpack accounts will end next month. Teachers can still use Padlet via the free version. Some alternative options for Padlet include
1. Jamboard
2. Wakelet
3. Microsoft Whiteboard (in Office 365 apps too)
Jamboard Overview
People in up to 50 user sessions can work on a jam at once. When using a web browser, each Jamboard browser tab counts as a session.
Using Jamboard on a computer, you can use a web browser to:
- Write and draw using a mouse or trackpad or touch screen
- Search Google and insert images or webpages.
- Add Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides to a jam.
- Drag and resize text and images.
- Present your jam to a Google Meet video call.
- Saves to Drive
- Version History (just like Docs/Slides/Sheets)
Wakelet
- Wakelet lets you create a collection with text, links, images, PDF files, tweets, YouTube, Flipgrid, Drive files, Adobe Express files, Canva Designs, GIPHY, Unsplash...
- Add as many of any type of item as you’d like — a collection of all links, a collection with text and images, a collection with all types of items, etc.
- Teachers can create collections for students. Students can create collections. Teachers and students can add to collections collaboratively.
- A collection can be added to Google Classroom to be used as a resource. Or it can be added for students to add to the collection as a class.
SAMR Model for Tech Integration
Another aspect of my coaching you may consider collaborating with me on is to degree to which technology in your classroom is transforming student learning.
The SAMR model is one way to conceptualize this concept.
Here is an example of how Wakelet might fit within the SAMR model:
- Substitution: Students read a collection of articles on Wakelet instead of in print. (Enhancement)
- Augmentation: Students curate multimodal collections of images, videos, articles and more. (Enhancement)
- Modification: Students curate information and resources about a specific topic on Wakelet and share it widely via social media for feedback. Students critically analyze content and research to create an archive for discussion. (Transformation)
- Redefinition: Students have access to real-time collaboration on multimodal content curation. (Transformation)
Here is an example of how Jamboard fits within the SAMR model:
- Substitution: Students use Jamboard as a traditional whiteboard while drawing and erasing digitally instead of working with pen and paper.
- Augmentation: Students have access to the functions of a traditional whiteboard while also having added digital functions, such as the ability to instantly add images directly from the Internet.
- Modification: Students can curate and design multimodal jams that save automatically and can be accessed at a later date from any device, allowing students to reflect upon their thinking and continue building their knowledge anytime from anywhere.
- Redefinition: Students from around the globe can view and edit other students’ Jamboards while collaborating, commenting, and learning from each other.
