Cartersville Middle School

The faculty and staff of CMS are looking forward to a great school year. While we all understand the varying impacts and challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cartersville Middle School will continue to focus on supporting our students in mastering essential academic standards. For traditional students, CMS will be returning to 5 day a week in person instruction on September 14th. Our Cartersville Virtual Academy students will continue to work alongside their team of CVA teachers in a digital setting for the entire school year.

As we navigate the current COVID-19 landscape, please know that we are taking every precaution possible to ensure the safety of our students and staff. We are encouraging masks, disinfecting frequently, allotting for designated handwashing times, and avoiding large gatherings during the school day. CMS also has contingency plans in place if we must move into a virtual or hybrid model in the future due to changing data.

Congratulations to Mrs. Sarah Belisle, CMS's Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Belisle has served as a middle school educator for over 17 years. Her love for teaching and science is evident in all that she does here at Cartersville Middle School.

Cartersville Middle is excited to introduce you to our seven new staff members for the 2020-2021 school year.

Mrs. Beth Glover is our new assistant principal. Mrs. Glover previously served as an Instructional Support Specialist for Bartow County Schools.

Mr. Kyle Lundberg is teaching 7th grade ELA, math, and science. Mr. Lundberg previously taught math at Red Bud Middle School.

Ms. Kailah Guffey is teaching 6th grade math. Ms. Guffey is a recent graduate of the University of West Georgia.

Mr. Corey Tobin is teaching 8th grade science and math. Mr. Tobin previously taught math at Pickens County Junior High School.

Mrs. Alicen Pearson is teaching 7th grade math. Mrs. Pearson taught science and social studies at Red Bud Elementary School last year.

Ms. Kaitlyn Thornton is our new theatre arts teacher. Ms. Thornton taught ELA and social studies at Mason Creek Middle School last year.

Mrs. Nicole Woodard is teaching 8th grade science. Mrs. Woodard previously taught science at Cass Middle School.

Mrs. Megan Lane and I, Dr. Ashley Jackson, are your counselors for another exciting year. We will provide individual, small group, and classroom guidance lessons throughout the year. Our goal is to have as much face-to-face contact with students as possible, but we will likely have some virtual classroom lessons.

Backpack Buddies

The first Backpack Buddies pick up will be the week of September 8th. Students will need to listen to the announcements regarding the pick-up location. If you need a Backpack Buddies form, please call or email Mrs. Lane.

Mentor Canes

Mentor Canes is a school-based mentoring program. Mentoring builds self-esteem and confidence. Research shows that long-term mentoring improves school attendance, grades, and graduation rates! The Mentor Canes program will begin the week of September 14th. Please call or email Dr. Jackson if you have any questions about Mentor Canes.

Back to School Night

We are excited to announce our Back to School Night on September 29th, 2020. This event will be a virtual event and more information will be coming home at a later date.

Yearbooks

Yearbooks are on sale right now for $35. You can see Mrs. Belisle in room 726 on the 7th grade hall or click here to purchase yours today from Jostens.

If you did not get an opportunity to purchase a yearbook from last year, we still have a few for sale for a discounted price of $20. Please see Mrs. Belisle if you would like to purchase one, but you better hurry! They are first come first serve only.

Flu Shots

Flu shot letters and permission forms went home this week. If you want your child to receive the flu shot please complete and sign the form and return it to school no later than September 28, 2020. Permission forms will NOT be accepted after this date. If your child is covered by insurance, please make sure you attach a copy of your insurance card. There will be NO CHARGE for the flu shots. The Health Department will be at CMS to give flu shots on October 14, 2020.

Back Pack Buddies 5K:

The race is scheduled for Saturday, October 31st- a Halloween themed race. Participants are welcome to run or walk; the purpose of the event is to have fun and raise money for our Back Pack Buddies program. There is a school participants competition, so if you sign up, please choose Cartersville Middle School. Everyone who signs up will receive a race t-shirt. Click here for the race registration link.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications

Applying for free & reduced meal price benefits? This year, apply online! If you apply online, your status will be updated immediately to ensure that your child will be able to receive the correct meal price right away. Use the link below to access the online application:

If you prefer to fill out a paper application, please let your child's homeroom teacher know and an application will be sent home. Please be advised that paper applications may take up to 10 days to be processed- online applications are processed immediately! Remember, students and families MUST fill out a new application each year.
