Brown Bag Parent Meeting
Current 6th or 7th Grade Parents
Come join your grade level counselor on Tuesday, February 4th as they go over the course selection sheets for next year. Counselors will be visiting classes during the week of February 3rd to present to students about courses offered in 2020-2021 for seventh and eighth grade. Students will receive a hard copy to discuss and select courses at home with a parent/guardian. Course selection sheets are due to their designated teacher listed on the form no later than Thursday February 13th. Further questions regarding courses offered can be viewed on the back of the form or in the RRISD 2020-2021 course catalog.
The meeting will begin at 7:45am and end at 8:10am to assure preparation time for the class presentation. Mrs. Reilly, 6th grade counselor, will be in room 322 and Mrs. Hobbs, 7th grade counselor, in room 320.
Children At Risk Organization Ranks Canyon Vista #1 Middle School in Central Texas
Seven Round Rock ISD schools were ranked among the top five schools in Central Texas by the CHILDREN AT RISK Annual School Rankings. Canyon Vista was ranked the #1 Middle School in Central Texas. In addition to the top placings, Round Rock ISD elementary and middle schools were collectively the highest rated in the area. Congratulations to all Canyon Vista students and staff! Counseling Corner
8th Grade Parents -
February 5 - 8th Grade Parent Orientation Night at Westwood High School from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. This evening will give 8th grade parents an opportunity to explore/browse elective and endorsement choices, hear an overview on graduation requirements and attend breakout sessions.
February 5 - 8th grade Course selection sheets are DUE to US History teachers, no later than this date.
February 11 - 14 - the Westwood High School counselors will be on campus to hold individual registration conferences with 8th grade students to finalize course selections. Parents are invited and encouraged to attend! You should have received a postcard invitation with your student’s appointment date and time, however if you did not receive it, please contact the 8th grade counselor, Mrs. Galvan, for help with this.
6th Grade Parents -

Library News
The library is getting new flooring! Because of this, we will box 16,000+ items before the last day of school. Therefore, the CVMS Library's last day to check out books will be Friday, April 17, with all items due on Wednesday, April 22.
MathCounts News
On Saturday - 1/11/2020, the Canyon Vista MathCounts team competed in the Austin Math Circle 2020 MathCounts competition with schools from the Austin, Houston, and Corpus Christi area. Congratulations to the team for a great performance and special shout out to Lerchen Z. (6th grade) for coming in 2nd place in the individual competition and 1st place in the countdown round!
On Saturday - 2/1/2020, the Canyon Vista MathCounts team competed in the MathCounts Travis Chapter Competition. There were 23 schools in attendance from around the Austin area and 125+ students present. Overall Canyon Vista had a very strong showing and will be advancing to the MathCounts State Competition in March with the team coming in 2nd place overall and with one of our individual competitors placing in the top 10!

Nurse's Corner
6th Grade Immunization Updates:
Parents of ALL Current Sixth-Grade Students -- Please send in an updated shot record with these 7th grade shots (TDaP & MCV4), to the Nurse's Office.
Your student may already have these shots done, but we need valid documentation of current immunizations for seventh grade -- this is District and State policy. These shot records can be brought to school by your student, or emailed to the Nurse's Office at jenny_sadnick@roundrockisd.org. Thank you!
Robotics Clubs News
Congratulations to the Canyon Vista Robotics Club for their success in the Texas Region 4 VEX IQ Tournament. The team was awarded the Judge's Award, for their perseverance and their outstanding teamwork. Way to go Mustangs!
School Zones
Please remember the maximum speed limit in a school zone is 20 MPH. In addition, cell phone use is prohibited in school zones. Please remind the drivers in your household, friends, and neighbors to be mindful of their speed in school zones. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in keeping our Mustangs safe!
Tennis Club
It’s not too late to join the Tennis Club! We have already had our first practice, but we would still LOVE for you to join! All grade levels and all playing levels welcomed. Wellness and Sexual Health
The Living WELL Aware Adolescent Wellness and Sexual Health®, formerly known as Worth the Wait, will be taught and presented during the following times:
6th graders during their PE classes the week of March 30-April 3, 2020
7th graders during their Science classes the week of March 9-13, 2020
8th graders during their Science classes the week of April 16-22, 2020
Notification slips will be passed out approximately two weeks prior to the start date for each grade level.
