FAMILY FUN FRIDAYS
FUN AT RECESS
Snow is here and we are LOVING IT! We are outside almost everyday, and encourage students to have fun in the cold! Please send in winter gear including snow pants and boots for your kids who like to play. A "just in case" change of dry clothes to keep at school is also a good recommendation for kids of any age!
LINES FROM THE LIBRARY
It has been a busy first half of the school year in the WCS library. We have participated in Global Read Aloud, coded with Bee Bots and Ozobots, worked on our research skills and celebrated award winning books. The middle school book club has met to discuss 3 books so far this year. And we have circulated almost 7,000 items. Wow...that is a lot of reading! I’d like to give a shout out to our classrooms with the most check outs since school started. These kids are responsible and return their library materials in a timely manner…letting them check out more awesome books! So congratulations and thank you to Mrs. Babock’s, Mrs. Keefe’s and Ms. Moran’s homerooms for following the Woolwich Way in the library!
WCS STUDENT LEADERS ROCK!
Since forming in early November, our grades 6-8 Student Leadership Team has been making great things happen here at WCS. Meeting roughly twice a month, students have already accomplished some big goals, including helping to plan the whole school assembly in December, taking on an active role in the mascot naming and reveal portions of the celebration, and assisting with the assembly’s flow. In early January, Student Leaders launched the new Middle School Swag Store, which is now open on Fridays during Study Hall on the third floor. Woolwich Way Wow tickets can be cashed in by middle school students for swag items such as Jibbitz, stickers for water bottles, paw bracelets, lanyards, and more, keeping students motivated toward following the school’s core values. Currently, Student Leaders are planning a Glow-in-the-Dark themed dance, which will tentatively be held March 3rd in the WCS cafeteria. They also intend to plan a Spirit Week in the upcoming months. Stay tuned for more!
SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
Students in grades K-2 have just started their new Go2Science mission about manatees in Florida. They will be investigating how many manatees have scars from boat propellers, and will be learning about other Florida wildlife during this 6-week mission.
On Wednesday mornings the students in grades 3-5 have their weekly wing morning meeting in the forum. The teachers take turns sharing books focusing on current happenings and relevant themes. For the past three weeks, the students have watched Kindness 101 videos with Steve Hartman and listened to a related book. They have learned about perseverance, the power of gratitude, and the benefits of challenging yourself outside your comfort zone. The students, and teachers, are enjoying this community building experience each week.
This is the place to get all your WCS-branded clothing and accessories.
