Winter Break
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
At Longmont Estates, we know the crucial role that literacy skills play in students' overall success. Therefore, we will be participating in the MyOn Challenge over break, so please encourage your kids to log on!
During this winter season, I would like to celebrate the success of the first half of the school year. I am proud of the progress our students are making. Thank you for supporting your child at home and partnering with our staff. I hope you all have a wonderful and safe winter break.
Sincerely,
Traci Haley,
Principal
Reading Challenge
Participating schools will utilize the myOn reader program to record the number of minutes read by their students between December 19 and January 6.
Prizes will be awarded to the schools with the highest average minutes read per student (total minutes per enrollment).
All funds will be used to enhance reading programs.
Help LEE win by reading on MyOn!
1st Place: $3000
2nd Place: $1500
3rd Place: $800
In addition to a district level prize, Longmont Estates will award the class per grade level with the most minutes read an extra recess. Students that read 5 or more hours will earn a pizza party with Mrs. Haley. The top reader in the school will earn an Ozobot. Happy reading!

Penny Wars
Pennies for Patients teaches students caring, sharing, respect for others, and the value of community service, in addition to supporting an important cause. This program raises money to find cures for leukemia and lymphoma while providing information and support services to patients and their families. Your students will also be learning about this charity and the services they provide during STEM time.
The object of the game is for each class to collect as many pennies as possible during the "war" while simultaneously "sabotaging" the other teams. Of course, the ultimate object of the game is to give the students an opportunity to raise money to support a project that helps others.
Each class collects coins in a see-through container. Each container is labeled with the name of their class. The containers will be kept in the lunchroom with student council supervision.
Students bring pennies to school and put their pennies in the container that belongs to their class. Classes will receive one point for every penny in the container. But it gets more complicated. Students may sabotage the other classes by putting "silver" coins (nickels, dimes and quarters) into the containers of the other teams.
Each silver coin subtracts points from that container by the value of the coin. A nickel subtracts 5 points from the total, a dime reduces it by 10, and a quarter by 25. This is where strategy comes into play. This is why the game is so much fun. When the contest is over, on Friday, January 10th, the pennies and silver coins will be counted separately. The total monetary amount of the silver coins will be deducted from the total number of pennies.
There will be a winner for each grade level (Kinder-5th). The class with the most money at the end of the week will receive a donut party!
Start saving those pennies and get ready to have some fun!!
Thank you for your support!
