SISD February Board Report

The Alaska Society for Technology in Education has been a long-standing organization in Alaska supporting technology at all levels of education. This year for the professional development of our teachers SISD has been able to send staff that requested the training.

There will be 4 days of sessions our staff can attend. Each staff member is expected to bring back what they learn and teach our crew something new.

SISD's Technology Director is the current Board Representative for Southeast and will continue for the next two years.

Many of our students submitted entries to the IDidaContest. Soon to be announced winners could include some of our very own student work. (Should be announced at the Board Meeting)

The Thorne Bay E-Sports team began the Spring season with their first game on Feb 15th. They will be competing playing League of Legends. A team of 5 is needed, and we have a team of 5 players.

Players are currently working on fundraising for some equipment and E-Sports jerseys.

AK Star
The new state summative assessment is coming quickly into view. While the testing season will be mostly fit the month of April, tech preparations have already begun. All district Chromebooks that meet the requirements for testing have been prepped and are ready to go.

March 1st Alaska DEED is working to have a Rising Star day, using students and schools to do a load/systems test across the state on the same day.

NWEA MAP

The MAP testing window is currently open. SISD Tech works hard in the background to upload information out of PowerSchool into each testing system.

I-Ready Winter Assessment
The winter assessment window for I-Ready is currently open. Teachers have been working with students to help address reading and math. Targeted lessons are provided based on the data.

Student Information System

As SISD works to streamline and improve its processes, systems audits are being done with vendor assistance to highlight areas that can be improved or better utilized.

Powerschool, our student information system, is one area of focus we hope to improve utilization at all user levels; administrators, teachers, students, and parents.

PowerSchool Registration

SISD is working to streamline the student registration process for families and staff. Utilizing a digital registration system will reduce manual work and increase access to information in the database. This will help SISD be more nimble and responsive to our families and situations that may arise.
