CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
Our 7th and 8th-graders started their first week of Boat Building at the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath! This program gives students a hands-on experience as they learn the history and tradition of boat building and woodworking. Over the course of the program, students will create their own wooden toolbox and stool, and will work together to build a full-sized boat that is launched in Nequasset in the spring!
BUTTERFLIES!
Mrs. Babcock's 3rd grade released the last of three butterflies. They witnessed one making his chrysalis and then saw the other hatch from its chrysalis. Very exciting!
5th GRADE BAND
Beginners Band started this week for 5th grade and students have enjoyed working together to play music!
NWEA TESTING
The 5th-grade will be starting their NWEA testing for reading and math next week.
WCS PTA
We are very excited to be kicking off our Get Glowing Fun Run Fundraiser! This glow-in-the-dark event will be held October 21st from 5-7, and we will have activities, glow jewelry, food for sale, and of course, running! This event is open to the whole school- even staff and parents. This fundraiser supports our yearly budget, which includes field trips, wildlife presentations, author visits, extra-curricular activities, and special events! Please take a look at the information sent home with your student this week, and use our link to sign your student(s) or yourself up to start fundraising: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/woolwichPTA/addme
If you own a business and would like some publicity while supporting our Woolwich students, please consider sponsoring a classroom! Donors with a $100 sponsorship will receive a sponsorship certificate on the door of your classroom of choice and a post on our social media. $250 is a gold level sponsorship that will provide the above things, as well as a shout-out at the beginning of our fun run, extra social media advertisement, and a spot on our flyers. Please contact Carly at mywcspta@gmail.com to get a sponsorship form! Your sponsorship amount goes towards your sponsored classroom’s overall total!
If you are interested in volunteering for this amazing event, please use our Sign Up Genius to sign up for a volunteer slot: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080844aeac22a1ff2-getglowing
OCTOBER BREAKFAST & LUNCH MENUS
HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
It is cold season again. Since we have been wearing masks for the better part of the last two years many of us have escaped the common cold, however, it is circulating! Here are a few tips for keeping yourself healthy:
1. Wash your hands often with soap and clean water
2. Get adequate amounts of rest each day (a bedtime routine is SO important)
3. Drink more water than usual
4. While Covid taught us to keep our distance and that was not much fun, it truly is helpful in preventing the spread of colds
5. Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or with your elbow (do not use your hand.) Practice with your children at home and let them know when you see them doing a good job!
If you have questions or comments I always enjoy hearing from you. -Nurse Sherwood
SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
WCS students are working on decorating pumpkins as book characters. Each class is deciding on a character, starting the project in Art class and then working together to finish. The pumpkins will be on display (with a corresponding book cover) in the lobby just in time for October.
