A Message from the Principal
Dear Eccles Community,
I want to introduce our school counselor, Ms. Kelly Siewell. She is one of the incredible staff members supporting our school and students. Eccles is lucky to have such a warm, student-centered, and skilled counselor. Below is a message from Ms. Siewell.
We wish you all a good three day weekend in honor of our Veterans.
Sincerely,
Kelly Rogers
A Message from the Counselor
Hello Eccles Community,
My name is Kelly Siewell and I am the School Counselor here at Eccles! I wanted to share a little bit about my role and give an update on what we are working on this month!
My role as the school counselor is to help to support the social, emotional and academic needs of all students. I accomplish this through individual student planning, providing responsive services and indirect student services.
This Month at Eccles:
The character skill we are focusing on for November & December is Problem Solving. At Eccles, students learn a problem solving process called STEP, which stands for:
S - Say the problem, without blame
T - Think of solutions
E - Explore consequences
P - Pick the best solution
Students also learn a variety of solutions to their problems. Depending on the situation, within STEP, there are several strategies a student could use to problem solve. During my classroom lessons I will highlight these strategies and the different situations they would be most appropriate. We encourage you to discuss our STEP problem solving process with your student and help develop his or her own problem solving strategies.
Thank you!
Kelly Siewell

REMINDER - Pie Pick-up!
Monday, November 14 - 2:30-4:30 pm
Pies must be picked up on this day, as we have very limited refrigeration space. Feel free to recruit family or friends if you need assistance getting them in time.
Want to help?
We are in need of volunteers to help PTA unload pies and hand them out to families. If interested, sign up here. We always appreciate any support you can provide!
Our recent pie fundraiser with Willamette Valley Pie Company was a great success! We sold 1,093 pies and profited $6,671 for our school! Thank you to students, families, staff and friends for all of your support.
Holiday Drive
The Canby School District Coin & Toy Drive has begun and will run through Dec. 2. During this event, we will be collecting spare change and new unwrapped toys at our school to support the Kiwanis Canby Community Food & Toy Drive, an event that has been serving Canby families for more than 60 years. Note that this year, Kiwanis will not collect food as in years’ past but coin funds will go toward food gift cards for families. Applications for assistance are available at the school office.
Check out the coin collection bins under the tree in the office where we are having a friendly competition between the Ducks and the Beavers. Bring your donated coins and put them in your favorite teams bin, and drop off a new present in the toy bin. Thanks for supporting Kiwanis!
Review New Library Selections
Canby School District is providing an opportunity for parents to review new library books before they go into circulation in the district libraries. The opportunity will take place at the Ackerman Library on Nov. 21 from 3-5 p.m. Those who attend will use Canby School District guidelines for selecting and reviewing library texts to submit a review form online.
Volunteers
Field trip chaperone opportunities are coming up! Or you may be looking to volunteer in your student’s classroom. If you did not complete this process last year, or are a new incoming family, an application must be submitted through the Canby School District.
Here’s what you need to know:
- This must be pre-arranged with the teacher and/or specialist that you are assisting.
- All new* volunteers must be registered and pass a background check in order to volunteer for any classroom, field trip, or activity on-site.
- All volunteers must sign in and out upon entry and exit of the school building.
We look forward to having you join us!
Meals at School
Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced-price meals, and we now offer expanded income guidelines to qualify more families. If you plan to have your child eat school-provided breakfast or lunch, please fill out a Meal Application online at https://www.ode.state.or.us/apps/frlapp - Our district ensures that our nutrition programs are easily accessible to all families.
> Click here to put money on your child's lunch account <
Meals will always be provided to students, no matter their application status or meal plan balance.
Health Reminders
As school begins and we are starting to enter the cold and flu season, please remember to review our district and school health 'stay home guidelines'. If you have any questions about whether a student should stay home, please don't hesitate to contact the office and we can put you in touch with our Health Assistant or District Nurse. We appreciate your help in keeping not only your student, but all other students, staff and families healthy this school year.
