An Update from the Superintendent's Office - November 2021
This is an exciting time of year for our students with post-season volleyball and football, Quiz Bowl competitions, and One Act performances on the horizon. We are fortunate to have students that are highly involved and dedicated to their education and extra-curricular activities. This wouldn't happen without the support and dedication of you as parents and that of our staff. Thank you for such a great start to the school year and fall activity season. I'm looking forward to another great quarter filled with student growth, achievement, and success! This truly is the best place to raise a family with such an active and prideful community. Thank you for making OC great!
State Volleyball
The Oakland-Craig volleyball team won the Class C2-1 District Final to punch their ticket to the state tournament starting next week. Information about the week is included below. There are some important notes to highlight. First, we will have a 1:15 p.m. dismissal on Thursday, November 4 as we will play at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln at 5:00 p.m. IF we WIN on Thursday, we WILL NOT have school on Friday, November 5 as we will play at Pinnacle Bank Arena at 1:00 p.m. IF we LOSE on Thursday, we WILL have school on Friday. Please see all of the additional details below.
General Information
- Thursday, November 4 - 1:15 p.m. Dismissal, No Preschool (5:00 p.m. Game)
Friday, November 5 (if we win Thursday) - No School (1:00 p.m. Game)
After School Program
Thursday - the Bright Knights After School Program will remain open.
If we win on Thursday school will be closed on Friday, as will the after school program
Pep Rally
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 4 (open to the public)
9:00 a.m. (approximately) Escort (please line the highway)
Please note that I have just recently decided to do district pep rallies when a TEAM qualifies for state. When an INDIVIDUAL qualifies we will plan a send-off rather than a pep rally. I apologize for the delay in this decision. Had I thought of this in advance, we would have had a pep rally for our cross country team as well. My sincere apologies to the cross country team.

Transportation & Entry Fees
Pep Band will take the bus with Mr. Bohn
Students that sign up to attend but fail to do so will be responsible for reimbursing the district for the cost of their entry fee/ticket
This includes anyone that misses the departure time
Student Bus (7-12th Grade Students) - $5 charge for any student wanting to ride
Entry fee for ticket is responsibility of the student
School district will collect $5 transportation fee and $7 entry fee on Tuesday, November 2 and will take care of purchasing all of the tickets as all tickets have to be purchased digitally.
In the event that there isn’t enough interest, we will not have a student bus and money will be returned
Transportation and entry fees will not be returned if student decides not to attend for any reason or if they are late to departure
- Tickets:
All tickets must be purchased digitally
Adults - $10
Students - $7
Free/Reduced Paperwork
While everyone is receiving free meals right now, some of our district funding relies heavily on our free/reduced meal rates. Currently, 36% of our population receives free/reduced meals; however, some of our funding requires us to meet the minimum of 40%. The future of some of our programs (i.e. after school program) requires us to meet these needs so we are asking everyone to fill out an application. I have included a link to the application below. Even if you don't meet the income requirements, you can fill out the application. I realize there isn't a direct benefit to households since everyone is receiving free meals right now, but the district relies heavily on utilizing funding provided based on our free/reduced rate so we would greatly appreciate everyone completing the application. Applications can also be found in the high school and elementary offices or can be sent home with your child.
