Summer Reading Info

Summer reading requirements should be completed prior to August. There is still time to find a book. Encourage your child to get reading so they can start off on the right foot for the new school year.

This year, our focus is student choice. Therefore, Secondary Programs is offering students a choice in selecting a novel that meets the criteria outlined in the attached packet. The goal is for students to read during the summer. Students will complete the "book talk" requirement over the book they select when they return in August.

Summer Reading information is available for your immediate review:

High School Summer Reading Selection

Additionally, the information will be posted on the HCS webpage for students and parents and can be found by following these directions:

Back to School Orientations

While we have a few days of summer left, the first day will be here before we know it. We will host an orientation for all students before they return to school. During this orientation, students will have a refresher on general school expectations and be able to pick up their schedules.

On Monday, July 31st - Eighth and seventh-grade orientations are for returning students only and should last about 30 - 45 minutes.

On Monday, July 31st - Sixth-grade orientation is for ALL sixth-grade students and parents. Students will rotate through their core classes briefly to receive their school expectation overviews from their teachers. Parents who come will have a presentation by the school administration. Sixth graders will also receive their schedules this day.

On Thursday, July 27th - The orientation is for NEW seventh and eighth-grade students and families. Schedules will be handed out to students if they are ready. All sixth graders are considered new and should come on July 31st.
