Physical ID needed
Reminder: When visiting the school, all visitors must have their ID with them. Visitors must have their physical ID. Pictures of ID on your phone are not accepted.
Is your child sick? Follow the 24 hour rule.
Reminder: If your child is sent home from school vomiting or with a fever, they must remain home for 24 hours without symptoms (no vomiting and no fever) before they can return. There are a lot of germs floating around right now and having students come back too soon is only helping to spread those germs to classmates.
PTA Spirit Wear Sale
PTA is selling spirit wear now until March 15th.

Title 1 Family Math Night February 29th, 5:30-7pm
Join us for a night of fun and games - literally! Families will be given a set of materials as they enter (dominoes, cards, dice) and can explore different rooms to play games using those materials. Every game can easily be played at home to reinforce math skills. Each classroom will have a couple of games, so feel free to visit several classrooms to see what other games are available.
We want our families to continue the learning and fun at home, so every family will receive a packet with directions for all of the games played tonight, plus more! That way, you can have fun as a family and keep your math skills sharp.

Book Fair is coming!
The Book Fair is coming February 26th - March 1st. Check out THIS LINK for information about how to add funds to your child's eWallet, browse the scholastic website, and other information.
Why is the Book Fair important? Every dollar the school earns goes directly back into supporting student learning. We have recently purchased books for the library and for classroom libraries as well as multiple large interactive screens to replace outdated technology in some of our classrooms. Without Book Fair proceeds, these purchases would not be possible.
Read Across America Week is March 4-8
Read Across America Week is coming. The attached flyer has details about a Vocabulary dress up day. We are excited to see our students' creativity!
We want your empty cereal boxes!
The Steam Lab will be collecting cereal boxes, empty and flattened, until the end of the school year. If you have empty cereal boxes, send them our way! Students may take them to their homeroom teacher or may drop them off in the office.
Repeating (but useful) Information
Title 1
How are schools allowed to use their Title 1 money?
Title 1 funds can only be used for specific things as mandated by law. Schools are allowed to supplement their learning programs, but they cannot purchase new curriculum. LJES chooses to spend the majority of our Title 1 funds on staffing to provide students greater access to adults in order to receive the individualized help they need. The individuals we hire for these positions work with students who are below grade level to catch them up on skills they have not yet mastered. Sometimes, they meet with students outside of the classroom and other times they join the class and assist 'in the moment' as students work on their classroom assignments.
The remaining Title 1 funds from our budget are used to provide professional learning for our staff so they are knowledgeable in best practice strategies for meeting students' needs.
