Board Meeting Summary 10/23/2023
- Jill Peeters, Marketing and Community Coordinator, shared the latest updates on the District's marketing initiatives. The focus of her presentation was to offer a comprehensive look into the strategic process used when sharing the District's story, as well as day-to-day communication responsibilities. Research and planning prior to communication, as well as evaluation afterward, are key elements in the process. Data-driven strategies using analytics and continuous improvement help the District to successfully reach various audiences. The District uses multiple platforms to reach staff, parents, community members and students with information that is important to them. She also gave some insight into other aspects of District communication which include crisis communication, media relations, targeted campaigns, and accessibility improvements among others.
- Becky Hansen, Executive Director of Business Services & Sustainability, presented the final 2023-24 budget and school district tax levy for Board approval. The most notable change was the substantial increase in the equalized property value resulting from closure of the Appleton Tax Incremental District (TID). This in turn led to a significant drop in the tax rate that was proposed at the Annual Meeting. The final number was a modest 1.8% increase in the tax rate to address three years of inflationary increases to heating, cooling, bussing and salary expenses. Hansen indicated that private school vouchers have also had a significant impact on the tax rate; over the last nine years, the portion that has gone to private schools accounts for $3.5M where the public school portion has increased by only $1.3M over the same time period. Changes in the budget include fund 10 revenue and expenses, as well as special projects budget, cooperative program budget and the community service budget. The Board approved a motion to certify the levy in the amount of $18,149,514 and to approve the revised 2023-24 budget. Complete details on the School District's budget can be found on the District website, under Business Services.
- The Board approved the annual School Violence Drill reports for 2023. Matt Bumgardner, Assistant Principal at Kimberly High School and Safety Coordinator for the District, submitted the reports that are required by ACT 143. Each school is required to hold a drill at least annually.
- Bob Mayfield, Superintendent, presented and the Board approved the District's updated ESSER plan.
- The Board approved the second reading of changes to policy 5114 - Nonimmigrant Students and Visitor Programs.

Twenty-five students from the Kimberly Area School District have been selected for 2024 All-State Choirs by the Wisconsin Choral Directors Association. All-State Choir celebrates some of our best young singers in the state. The event is open to students from fourth grade through college, and is part of the WCDA Conference in January. Congratulations to the students listed below, for pursuing excellence in the arts!

Weather Cancellations/Delays Reminder
Winter is right around the corner. If weather conditions dictate that there will be no school or a delayed start, a decision to keep the schools closed is usually made by 6:00 a.m. Parents with students in school receive a direct call, text and/or email from our autocall system through Infinite Campus since that is the fastest way to communicate with thousands of parents at one time.
As a reminder: If you have a new phone number or email address, please update your information in the Infinite Campus parent portal or contact your school’s secretary to update the portal. Weather alerts and school closings are sent as “General Notifications.” Announcements are also sent to local T.V. and radio stations. Our website and Facebook page are not our primary way to communicate closures. Please listen to the auto-call messages or tune in to local media outlets rather than calling the school directly.
