Lakeview Elementary
OCTOBER 2021 NEWSLETTER
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
While last month flew by so quickly, there were many moments when I was reminded of the incredible staff, students, and families we have here at Lakeview. I was reminded of the kindness that exists when I saw students helping other students feel better after scraping their knee. I was reminded of the passion that exists when I sat in collaboration meetings with educators determined to help students feel successful. I was reminded of the empathy that exists when associates go above and beyond to reach a student at their level of need. This building is full of the most compassionate, hardworking and thoughtful educators you could ever hope to meet. And truth be told, I wouldn't make it through a single day without each and every one of them, and for that a am sincerely grateful.
In a world filled with endless negativity and judgement, I encourage you to take some time to thank an educator, associate, secretary, custodian, lunch and/or support staff for their continued dedication to students.
We are always stronger together! #solonstrong
Take care,
Ms. Tabor
CLASSROOM HALLOWEEN PARTIES 10.29.21
- No outside treats
- No parent visitors and/or volunteers
- Parties will consist of activities within the classrooms (decided by each teacher)
- Parties will be scheduled within the last hour of the school day on Friday, October 29th
Students will be allowed to wear their Halloween costume to school that day. Please leave all hand held accessories (i.e. wand, sword, etc) at home. Costume masks will stay in student backpacks until the start of their classroom party.
*Please note that this day is also picture retake day, so any students wishing to retake school pictures should plan to bring a change of clothes for their pictures.
PARTIES, TREATS & LUNCH VISITORS
The School District's Nutrition Department is a great resource for ordering treats that meet the wellness policies. If you are interested in ordering items through the District's Nutrition Department, you may contact Becky West at bwest@solon.k12.ia.us and she would be happy to help!
Lastly, in order to continue the spacing in the lunchrooms, we will not be allowing lunch visitors again this school year. This will help us maintain some social distancing and lower numbers in the lunchrooms while students eat. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

PARENT DROP-OFF PROCEDURES: UPDATE
OCTOBER FLU CLINIC
MITIGATION UPDATE
As previously shared, the district will continue to follow Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) guidance. The IDPH most recent guidance on COVID19 and other illnesses can be found in this link. It is important to monitor your child for symptoms and keep your child home if symptoms are evident as directed by public health.
Iowa law prevents mandating mask use, but the district welcomes their use by those choosing to wear them. We encourage everyone to consult with your personal family physician or health care provider with decisions related to COVID19 and other childhood illnesses.
The following precautions continue in the building:
- Updated air filters (changed quarterly)
- Cafeteria and small gym used for additional seating and more space between students while eating (no assigned seating)
- Frequent sanitizing/cleaning of high traffic areas and classrooms
- Classroom notifications will be sent for any classroom exposed to a positive COVID case
The following precautions have been added in the building:
- We will be suspending carpet time for the next two weeks and reassess after that
- Students and staff are being encouraged to wear their mask, especially when social distancing is not possible
- We will continue to utilize assigned lunch tables, as well as only have two students per bench to provide enough space while eating
- Cleaning and sanitizing of the building and classrooms has been increased
- Students with family members in the same household who test positive will be asked to isolate for the 5-7 days with guidelines to meet before being able to return to school
OCTOBER HEARING SCREENING
GWAEA hearing vans will plan to see preschool students on an IEP, all of Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd, as well as students with previously known hearing losses in grade 3, as well as any new 3rd graders without a previously documented hearing screening.
