Senior Yearbook Ads
Dear parents of the Senior class,
The 2024 Newport High School Yearbook Staff would like to invite you to purchase a senior dedication section of the yearbook. A flyer was mailed home to you last week that provides specific details regarding purchasing a senior dedication. This year’s yearbook will feature several sizes for you to choose from. You may include words and photographs for the senior dedication ad and the yearbook staff will design the dedications. This is a fun and special way to honor your senior and their accomplishment! You may either email or send us the order form and the photographs.
Thank you for your consideration! This should be a very fun thing for your senior to see in the yearbook for many years to come! Senior dedication ads are due no later than March 15, 2024. You may mail this form with your photographs or design and email your add. If you choose to design your own ad and email, be sure that your photo resolution is 300dpi. Our email address is: grizyearbook@newportgriz.com Thank you!

WA Grant gives more money to more people
Washington College Grant (WA Grant) gives more money to more people for more kinds of education and training beyond high school. WA Grant is not reserved for valedictorians or athletes—it is available to all eligible Washington residents, including undocumented students. If you meet the program and income requirements, you have money waiting for you.
WA Grant can help you access many types of education and training:
- Public and private colleges and universities
- Workforce and training programs
- Approved apprenticeship programs
WA Grant amounts vary based on income, family size, and program cost. An eligible student from a family of four with income of $73,000 or less per year can get a full award. What does that mean? For example, public college tuition would likely be free for a family with three children and a single parent making $34 per hour. For middle-income families, grant amounts are lower. But even someone from a family of four making up to $112,500 per year can get some money to help pay for college or training.
Students and families can use the financial aid calculator to estimate their potential WA Grant award, but the only way to know for sure whether you qualify is to apply for financial aid. Applications for the 2024-25 academic year are now open.
WA Grant helps make college or job training affordable. Learn more at WAgrant.org.
Morning Workouts: Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays
March 5th - June 6th 6:30am
Our morning athletic development program for all students begins Tuesday, March 5th, dressed and ready to go at 6:30am. All it takes is commitment, work ethic and a great attitude. Any questions contact Coach Pomante.
Attendance Matters
Check Skyward!!
Parents, please check your child's Skyward Family Access Portfolio to see an update regarding their attendance.
Grizzly Parents...starting at the end of February you will be receiving an email to communicate where your student(s) stand as far as attendance. You and your student will receive a letter stating whether your student is in one of three (Green, Yellow or Red) zones. You can see in the picture above the 3 zones and how they relate to the number of absences each month. You will receive a letter at the end of each trimester, starting with the end of the 2nd trimester on March 8th. This letter will tell you what zone you student(s) are in for the whole trimester.

FAFSA Info!
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is finally available and it is easier than ever!!!
Seniors, fill out your FAFSA form! Even if at this moment you do not think you will attend college next year, if your form is completed, you will have options. The information is used for trade schools, apprenticeship programs, community college, universities, and some scholarships. The sooner you apply, the more likely there will be money available to award, and many of you may be pleasantly surprised to find that your post-secondary plans ARE financially possible.
The application our seniors need to complete is the 2024-2025 application, and it just opened up on December 31st.
Over the next month, I will continue to send you emails and resources to help with the process. The first step is the creation of the FSA ID. I will be available in the high school library during NHS conferences on both January 30th and 31st to help families start/complete their FAFSA. As always, you are welcome to email or call and I will help as well. I was truly surprised at how much easier the process was this year.
Financial Aid Applications:
Please complete the FAFSA application. This can be used to fund trade schools, apprenticeships, colleges, and universities. Many of these post-secondary programs also rely on the FAFSA when awarding merit based scholarships so it is important to apply.
Step 1: Create an FSA ID: Start Here
All that is needed:
Student’s Social Security Number
Student’s Personal Email (please make sure it’s your personal email address so you can access it after you graduate.)
Step 2: Complete the FAFSA Form: Student Aid Website
All that is needed with this new form:
Your newly created FSA ID (see above)
The Social Security Number and date of birth for ONE of your parents.
That’s it!!! Consider taking time this weekend.
If you do need help, please contact me, come in during conferences or
Stop by STCU (Newport Branch: Jan 24th 5:30-7:30)
If you are not eligible to complete the FAFSA due to immigration status, defaulted federal loans, or other issues with federal aid, file the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid). Learn more and apply on the WASFA page.
