Principal's Corner
From the Principal's Desk:
What a busy, prayerful week! This week kicked off with All Saints and All Souls Day, swung into prayers for our nation on election day, and also focused on vocations. Please join us in praying for our seminarian, Randy Schneider.
During the month of November, we will be focusing on the virtue of humility and praying this prayer:
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, make my heart like thine.
Deliver me, Jesus. (repeat after each line)
From the desire to be esteemed…
From the desire to be honored…
From the desire to be praised…
From the fear of being humiliated…
From the fear of being ignored...
From the fear of being insulted...
From the fear of being wronged...
From the fear of being belittled...
Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it. (repeat after each line)
That others may be admired more than I ...
That others may be praised and I unnoticed…
That others may be preferred to me in everything…
That others may become holier than I, provided that I may become as holy as I should…
That I may imitate the patience and obedience of your mother, Mary. AMEN
It is hard to be humble. We are also going to pray for a classroom or group of individuals within our school each day. It is a surprise each morning to hear who is being prayed for that day!
COVID Updates
As many are aware, the number of positive cases are on the rise. Ripley County is currently orange. What does this mean for our schools? Initially the most likely place we will see changes when colors reach orange or red, will be extracurricular activities or events with larger crowds. For us, that would mostly mean athletics. We already limit our crowd size, but may be asked that practices are only coaches and players (no extra adults in watching). We already know that the uptick has led to the cancellation of our Super Bingo event.
According to Dr. Welsh, our schools are doing quite well. While we have had students who have had to quarantine, it has been minimal. Luckily, we haven't had a staff member sick or needing to quarantine. It is our plan to stay with in-person instruction as long as we can. Again, thank you for your diligence in communicating with Nurse Lydia and keeping your kids home when they are ill. I know she takes some heat when it comes to sticking to the guidelines, but it has kept us safe. We know it is a hassle to "wait it out", go to the doctor to get an alternate diagnosis, or think about getting your kid(s) tested for COVID. Unfortunately, these are precautions we have to take.
This week, our teaching staff will be working together to review our current plans should we need to go virtual. We will be shoring up expectations, delivery, and communication. While there will be similarities, there will also be some differences in what is expected compared to last spring.
Do you have a plan just in case? Last spring many things were shut down and most parents worked from home. That won't necessarily be the case this go round. It would be a good idea to plan for the possibility than to be caught off guard.
Day of Giving
Don't forget this Friday, November 6 is Ripley County Community Foundation's Day of Giving. The Ripley County Community Foundation is a wonderful support to many great causes in our community. Please go to www.rccfonline.org and consider making a contribution to a cause that is near and dear to your heart. Every contribution helps not matter how big or small.
As we remember St. Charles Borromeo, I want to leave you with one of his quotes to ponder:
"If a tiny spark of God’s love already burns within you, do not expose it to the wind, for it may get blown out. Keep the stove tightly shut so that it will not lose its heat and grow cold. In other words, avoid distractions as well as you can."
May God be with you always and in all ways,
Mrs. Patty Mauer

PTO NEWS
Halloween Party Success
We would like to thank Nicole Klump for her hard work, planning and great ideas for the K-3 Halloween party. The students had a great time and were thrilled to be able to get out of their classrooms to party. Thank you also to Ashley Kranz for volunteering her time.
Each student received a pumpkin donated by the Brunsman Family. In addition, everyone got to take a goodie bag with them that was donated by Lincoln Realty. These types of donations are always appreciated but mean even more this year since our fundraisers aren't what they typically are! Thank you to our volunteers and donors for your generosity!
Coke Rewards
Thanks for sending in the coke caps and box codes, over 12,000 codes have been submitted since this program has been started. As of now we are over $600.
Thanks to Harmeyers Grocery Store for saving the box codes, from the 63 codes we were able to earn $9.45

Veteran's Day Tribute
St. Louis School would like to honor our veterans once again this year on Veterans Day. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19, we will not be able to host visitors in our school this year.
We would like, however, to send our veterans a special message. If you are a veteran or know of a veteran, please send a picture of him or her along with their name & military branch to Jenny Lents (jlents@st.louisschool.org).
If you are unable to send a digital picture, you may send your picture to school along with your name & military branch, and we will scan it into the presentation and return your photo to you.
Please submit photos by Friday, November 6th.
Thank you,
Mrs. Jenny Lents

Annual Spelling Bee
The Annual School wide Spelling Bee is planned for Tuesday, November 24 at 8:15. Students in grades 4 - 8 participate in a classroom spelling bee or classroom test to determine the top speller(s) in each grade or homeroom. The two winners from each grade will then have a "spell down" at the school level bee. Invitations to the school bee will be emailed by homeroom teachers as the winners are determined.
The school winner will then go on to the regional level in Cincinnati. On November 24th this year, we are going to limit the audience to school spellers' close family. Classmates in grade 4 - 8 will not attend and students in grades K-3 will not attend.

Breakfast Program
At school, there's always a meal ready to be served! Some mornings, it's tough to find the time to make sure your kids are eating a nutritious breakfast. On those days, why not send them to our School Breakfast Program? Each meal meets government nutritional guidelines and standards. Schools are required to provide a breakfast meal that includes fruit, whole-grain rich items, and low fat or fat free milk. Check your child's menu to see the variety of nutritious choices available at School Breakfast, or stop by to sample the food yourself!
Breakfast is served from 7:30-7:55 each morning in the SLS cafeteria. The cost for breakfast is $1.50.

Recent basketball schedule changes
The 7th/8th boys' game scheduled for Thursday 11/5 at JCD has been cancelled because of Covid-19.
I have also been informed that St. Mary's ( Greensburg ) is going to E Learning for a couple of weeks and all basketball games are cancelled during this time, including the Nov. 9th game with St. Louis.
A 7/8 boys basketball game ( AWAY) with St. Nicholas has been added for 12/7 at 6:00.
The 12/14 home game vs St. Lawrence is a 7TH GRADE GAME ONLY.
I apologize for the confusion. Please remember to check the athletic calendar for all schedule changes!!
Thank You,
