Welcome Back! Dr. Tiffany Springer Returns to Silas Willard Elementary School!
A familiar face will return to Silas Willard for the 2022-2023 school year.
Dr. Tiffany Springer was hired at the CUSD #205 Board of Education meeting to be the next principal at Silas Willard Elementary School, a position she held prior to her move to becoming the Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
According to Dr. Springer, “While I have enjoyed my role within the district over the last four years, as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, I have greatly missed building relationships and engaging with the students, families, and faculty of Silas Willard.”
Dr. Springer has a vast background in education stemming from her roles as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, elementary and junior high school principal, and as mentioned above, as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Before standing in front of students in the classroom, Dr. Springer attended Monmouth College where she earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She then continued at Western Illinois University, earning her master’s and doctoral degrees in Educational Leadership.
When Dr. Springer is not in her role as building principal you can find her spending time with her husband Chad and three daughters, Madison (15), Abigail (15), and Olivia (14) who will all be attending Galesburg High School this year.
Dr. Springer looks forward to an exciting year at Silas Willard, “We are already busy preparing for the coming school year and look forward to meeting students and families, creating engaging opportunities to learn and grow, and fostering an environment where students can be wildly successful! I look forward to an outstanding year together in this new position!”
Standards-Based Grading Periods and Information

Quarter 2: October 15 - December 21, 2022
Quarter 3: December 22 - March 17, 2023
Quarter 4: March 18 - May 25, 2023*

How do we grade at the elementary level? We use a standards-based report card instead of a report card with letter grades. Elementary report cards are issued at the end of each grading period. They are intended to give an evaluation of the scholastic achievement and work habits of each child. Parents should examine all cards carefully since each child is rated not only on academic progress, but also on progress towards the development of social attitudes and work habits.
We use a 4, 3, 2,1 system to assess a student's mastery of standards.
4 = Exceeding State and District Standards
3 = Meeting State and District Standards
2 = Approaching State and District Standards
1 = Not Meeting State and District Standards
