PBIS 101
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to promoting and reinforcing positive behaviors in children at school and home. It involves creating a supportive and structured environment where students are taught social-emotional skills, expected behaviors, and rewarded for demonstrating positive actions. By focusing on prevention and early intervention, PBIS aims to reduce problem behaviors and increase academic engagement and overall well-being.
Parents play a crucial role in this system by collaborating with teachers to reinforce consistent expectations and using positive reinforcement strategies at home, helping their children develop essential life skills and flourish in various aspects of their lives!

Middle Grades FAQ's
Will my child have a locker?
Students interested in checking out an academic locker for the 2023-2024 school year may do so, although it is not required. During the first week of school, students will be sent an email explaining how to appropriately request an academic locker.
Can my child bring a cell phone to school?
Students may bring a cell phone to school, but the cell phone must be powered off and remain in the students’ backpacks during the school day. We will allow students a window of time to access their cell phones during lunch, but this is a privilege afforded to students who follow the expectations for lunchtime cell-phone usage.
If students need to use the phone during the school day, they should ask for permission to use the phone in the Prairie View Office. Unless students have specific permission from a secretary or principal, students should never make calls from their cell phones during the school day.
Will my child need a backpack?
Yes, students in middle grades (6-8) will need a backpack to use throughout the school day. It is perfectly okay for the backpack to have “wheels” so it can be pulled instead of carried. For safety and efficiency, students will be asked to bring only the essential items to school in their backpacks each day. Teachers will take time to review the list of essential items with students, but essential items may include: Chromebook & charger, earbuds, library book, classroom supplies (pencils, highlighter, colored pencils, calculator, pocket folders), and a “see-through” plastic water bottle.
Will my child get a Chromebook?
Yes, each student will be issued a Chromebook. Chromebooks will be checked out to students the first week of school, but parents and students will first need to fill out a Device Loan Agreement and pay a usage fee of $20 for the school year (or $10 each semester).
Parents may stop by the Prairie View Office, with their middle-grade child(ren), to sign the device agreement and pay the usage fee on Tuesday, August 15, from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and/or Wednesday, August 16, from 12:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Will my child dress out for PE?
Yes, students in grades 6-8 are expected to dress out for PE. The PE teachers, Mrs. Skalsky and Mr. Benson, will review the expectations for dressing out in the proper PE attire and assign students a PE locker for proper storage of each student’s PE items.
