Learning Project Update #3
One Stitch at a Time
Improvement of My Chains
If you've been following from last week, you'll know that I struggled a little with figuring out how to get my chain stitches just right. After a bit more practice over a week, I managed to get my chain stitches to a more presentable state.
Getting into The Single Crochet
After becoming more confident in my chain stitches, I decided to move onto the single crochet. I remember vaguely how to do this stitch, but I need a bit more of a reminder. I scoured the internet for a moment to find a resource I felt comfortable using. After last week, I realized I much prefer a video format rather than an article since it's much easier to see what I'm meant to do. A few google searches led me to this video by Crochet Guru.
Following with the video, I was able to assemble a somewhat recognizable chain of single crochets. One thing I noticed, however, is that the chains were a bit curled. I think this is because I added too much tension to the thread as I was going through the single crochets.
Repeating the same steps in the video, I ended up with a couple rows of single crochets that I was very happy with. The curls were still definitely noticeable, but it became much more apparent that there was intent in my creation rather than a bunch of yarn tangled up into some haphazard line. This would be the end of my single crochet journey though as I hadn't realized my yarn had split along the line and I wouldn't be able to continue. I didn't know how to incorporate a new thread of yarn into the pattern, so I thought I'd better stop while I'm ahead.
Anyways, that's the end of this week's learning project update. Again, it will always seem like I didn't learn much, but this was an amazing feat for me and I am so incredibly proud that I made something that wasn't an absolute mess. Make sure to come back next week and see what I'm learning next!
