SEL Second Step Program
Dear Parents,
Happy New Year Parents!
In this week’s Second Step lesson, your child will practice identifying two changes they could make in a recurring personal situation to manage strong emotions. Your child will evaluate each 'upstander' strategy (speaking up, offering support, and telling a trusted adult) in depth, with an emphasis on safety. They’ll evaluate the safety of each upstander strategy in different situations and consider their level of comfort with each strategy. This week’s lesson will also help your child understand how they’re protected from harassment at school and their responsibility not to harass others.
Parents, try this. Tell your child about a time you or someone you know had to speak up about something difficult. Ask your child what might make it difficult for people to speak up when they experience or witness negative things like harassment.
Good News Parents:
The SEL (Social Emotional Learning) books are here! If you signed up for an SEL book during our fall parent conference, your child will receive your book this week during homeroom. I will send out an email to let you know the book is on its way
