Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. We hope your summer has been a great one and that you are enjoying these last few days before the start of school on Wednesday, August 30th.

This first newsletter of the year will highlight some beginning of year events that you might want to make note of, reintroduce the PTO and provide other information ahead of the first day of school.

IMPORTANT: In order to receive this newsletter directly from the PTO, please opt in here if you haven't already. Your Horace Mann PTO Board

As a thank you to the teachers and staff at Horace Mann, we are planning to fill their break room with lots of snacks and goodies to start off the school year. We would love if families can help purchase items to help us stock up. The sign up sheet below offers up some suggestions but please feel free to buy something else if you don't see it on the list.

We will be bringing everything over to the school on Monday, August 28th so we are asking for all items to be dropped off at Kerry Webb's house (92 Morgan St) by Sunday, August 27th at 6pm.

We are looking for kids (caregivers welcome too) to help decorate the parking lot and sidewalks around the school to welcome the teachers & staff back for the 2023-2024 school year.

Come join us, we'll be at the school Sunday, August 27th between 4pm - 5:30pm and/or Monday, August 28th between 8:30am - 10am. The teachers will be arriving Monday around 10:15am.

Bring your own sidewalk chalk if you have some, but we will have enough to share.

Stop by for some coffee, courtesy of the PTO, on Wednesday August 30th, after you send the kids off for their first day of school.

We will have a table setup in the parking lot. Some of the PTO Board members will be available to answer PTO or Horace Mann related questions or help with any information you may need.

Save the date! Join the PTO for our back-to-school movie night on the Hesseltine Field behind Horace Mann, Friday, September 29th beginning at 7pm (Movie Starts at 7:15pm).

Snacks and beverages will be available to purchase. Bring friends and family, chairs, blankets and flashlights for a fun night under the stars.

We'll publish more information in the "Upcoming Events" section of this newsletter as these get closer, but here are some important dates to add to your calendar.

8/27 - 4pm-5:30pm & 8/28 8:30pm-10am - Chalk the Walk
8/30 - First Day of School - Coffee for Caregivers

9/21 - Horace Mann Open House 5:30 - 6:30pm

9/29 - Back-to-School Movie Night 7pm
10/14 - Pumpkin Festival at Horace Mann

11/8 - Horace Mann's Fun Run

If you ordered a supply kit through Bright SchoolKitz they will be delivered directly to your students' classroom.

If you're planning on volunteering at Horace Mann or for any activity within the school district, please make sure that your registration with The Bridge (Melrose Public School's Volunteer Organization) is up to date along with your CORI Background check.

CORI checks are valid for 3 school years, and if you already have one on file you should have received an email directly from The Bridge letting you know if yours is still valid or you need to update it.

You'll only need to register with The Bridge if your CORI needs to be updated or if you have substantial changes to your registration (like a change in schools or to contact information). Register Online with The Bridge here.

CORI paperwork must be completed in person. You may complete the form with the administrator in the front office of your student's school anytime during school hours, or make an appointment to meet with The Bridge's Coordinator of Volunteers, Lisa Lewis. All other interested volunteers should reach out to Lisa to schedule a CORI appointment. You can reach Lisa at llewis@melroseschools.com.
