A Note From The Principal's Desk
We had a great first week of full days! It was also great to see the weather break and the heat leave the building. It is crazy how long that places holds heat. Which is why it is important for the kids to have water with them as much as possible. As we start to get into the heart of the school year, you will start to hear things about assessments, fire and lockdown drills, kids who are annoying, maybe even some who are mean. Please know that while we do our best to be proactive in teaching kids Respect. Pride. Integrity. it doesn't always translate into kids daily interactions with one another. If you and I (meaning our entire team) partner with these discussions, it makes these important years for our kids growth and development a little smoother and hopefully less dramatic.
Another note: Please have a conversation with your kids about "Stuff you can't say at school." What is that? While it may sound different at home for each and every family, an important skill for our kids to learn is to begin to understand is how our speech is different in different settings. You and I both know that we talk differently to our friends than we do to our bosses...in most cases. So, choosing our words carefully is really important.
Topics that can cause HUGE issues and potentially get your student in a lot of unintended trouble include talk about: guns, killing, hurting, bombs (or blowing things up), spreading rumors, threatening to hurt or cause serious injury, etc. This is particularly prevalent with our boys. Our local police department and prosecuting attorney's office loves to work with families, but is also more concerned about the safety of all of our students. And words/phrases/threats like those listed above can and have gotten students in a lot of legal and school trouble in the past. "I was just joking," doesn't matter in instances like these. PLEASE CHAT WITH THEM!!!
Lastly, bringing things to school that could resemble or potentially harm others is another area where kids can get in tons of trouble! PLEASE talk with them about this! No weapons, or look-alike weapons are allowed! Even a simple pocket knife should not be brought to school. If a kids happens to have one and forgot, have them seek out a trusting adult IMMEDIATELY!!!
Lastly, if you miss the email, or know someone who needs this weekly newsletter, it is posted on our Facebook page and our schools website under the News section!
Yours in Rocket Pride,
