Notes from the School Nurse
Hello Parents/Guardians!
As we are now into cold/flu season and also still dealing with COVID-19, this note serves as a gentle reminder regarding a few things related to student health.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME FROM SCHOOL
1. Sick children need to be kept home from school; to include excessive coughing, sore throat, runny nose/congestion, vomiting, and/or high body temperatures (fever). Resting at home will help them get better more quickly and will prevent them from exposing other children or the staff to their illness.

Allergy Information
Spring allergy season and those signs/symptoms of sneezing, coughing, watery eyes and nose----Parents should START ALLERGY TREATMENTS AT THIS TIME.
~~NO continuous coughing, sneezing, draining eyes or nose in the school building~~
I have medication forms available, if it is to be administered at school.
Attendance
Please note, we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann (sally.warf@pgcps.org), Dr. Fryson (tfryson@cmitelementary.org) and Mrs. Virgil (evirgil@cmitelementary.org). Hello Kindergarten Families,
Please check the weather daily, so your scholar is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Please make sure that you are reading any messages via dojo, class story, or emails pertaining to your scholar’s class.
As we prepare for our Kindergarten promotion ceremony which will take place in June, we will send out a save the date when it is finalized. We would like to have a baby picture of your scholar to use in our slide show, please send the picture to your scholar's teacher’s email, which can be found below.
Upcoming Events
Friday, March 31, 2023 Asynchronous Day (½ day) your scholar will be given work the Thursday before, for your scholar to complete at home. They must also sign in for attendance in the Google document that your scholar's teacher will create and post in your class story for Friday’s attendance.

As a reminder, photos will be posted to Class Dojo and displayed during our Kindergarten Promotion video and celebration. If we do not have your permission to use your scholar's photo, they will not be included in videos during the promotion ceremony.

ELA: We have started on Unit 4 “Then and Now,” discussing items from the past, to how they have changed to the present. We will learn all about synonyms, review verbs and nouns and practice proper sentence structure. Our sight words for the week are: pretty, all, now, your scholars will use them in a sentence and practice writing them this week.
Math: We will be finishing up topic 13 mid week, and will complete the topic 13 assessment right before spring break. We are continuing to learn about two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, learning all about their attributes and relating them with real life items in our environment.
Science: We will talk about the life cycles of plants and butterflies.
Social Studies: We will continue to learn and identify how we keep track of time. We discuss schedules, clocks, and the use of calendars. Students will understand how we keep track of time through the seasons.
Friendly reminder: Class Dojo is one of our main forms of communication for any classroom activities, events, and messages. Please make sure that you are connected to your scholar’s Class Dojo. Teacher emails and the communication folder are other ways to stay connected as well.

Please provide a nut free snack for your scholar daily. Your scholar should have a full set of extra change of clothes that are labeled with their name (uniform) that can be kept in their cubbies.
If your scholar’s form of transportation changes for dismissal, please complete the necessary forms and upload into the document, as well as notify your scholar’s teacher.

Please remember that if your dismissal plans change, notify your child's teacher via dojo as well as the front office before 1:00 p.m. on the day of the change.
Additionally, please ensure that your child is dressed warmly when they arrive to school in the mornings. We have outdoor recess at 10:20 a.m. if the temperature is at or above 32 degrees. It is important that students are dressed appropriately for the weather.

This week in Reading, we will be working on Unit 4 Week 1. The question of the week is how can others inspire us to reach a goal? Throughout week 1, we will read narrative nonfiction text. In phonics, we will work on closed syllables VC/V patterns.
In Math, we will be starting topic 10. The topic covers adding within 1,000 using models and strategies.
In Science, we will continue discussing the surface of Earth's changes and what causes those changes to happen.
In Social Studies, we will complete Lesson 4, Challenges Producers Face.
We are in need tissue as allergy season is upon us.

In Social Studies, we will begin Chapter 4: Government, Landmarks, and Symbols.
This week in Math, we are comparing equivalent fractions. Scholars should be practicing and reinforcing math skills on our IXL skill plan, as well as using Mathigon.org to visualize these fractions.
In Science, we are looking at traits that are acquired and developed through environmental factors.

We strongly encourage parents to check SchoolMax weekly to stay abreast of your scholar's progress in all academic areas. Students can redo eligible assignments within a week of being posted. Weekly check-ins with your scholar about his/her grades is a great way to set goals and reflect on progress.
We are in need of hand sanitizers, disinfecting wipes, and facial tissues. Allergy season is upon us and we would like to continue to keep our classrooms germ free.

Great week for the 5th grade team!
We are finalizing Quarter 3 and migrating into Quarter 4! Our last day for the quarter is March 30th. There will be asynchronous learning on March 31st and we will submit lessons for scholars to complete and turn in by the close of business day. Students must submit their attendance for March 31st via the Google Form that will be posted on Google Classroom. If a packet is given, they will submit the completed work upon return from Spring break. Spring break begins April 3rd, 2023. Please get some needed rest and enjoy your amazing break!
SUBJECT CONTENT:
RELA
Scholars will be continuing the Unit 3 Week 5 lesson in Realistic Fiction. They are learning to infer multiple themes, make context connections, and use background knowledge for contextual development. They are learning to make comparisons and delayer the text based on the themes and inferences posed. They are finalizing their writing assignments for Women's Month and continuing the process of opinion writing based on various topics. Great job scholars!
Math
This week in Math:
1. Students will use models, prior knowledge of volumes, and previously learned strategies to solve word problems involving volume.
2. Students will apply understanding of division to divide fractions.
Science
In Science, we will continue to learn about the Solar System.
Social Studies
Scholars are migrating through Chapter 9 and developing understanding on The Civil War and The Reconstruction of our nation.
Continue to read daily for at least 20 mins and find time to take mental breaks. Your mental wellness is necessary for the success of your future.

Greetings,
Tigers have presentations this week and next. Classes will primarily consist of independent work to finish their projects and critiques. Projects include portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, abstract, and other activities that develop their understanding of depth of field and value. We will continue to stress craftsmanship as a priority.
Music
Women’s History Month continues!!! We are jamming and reading scores for Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald, and Beyonce. Students have grown in their music reading ability and are putting their knowledge to the test.
March Madness - Cartoon Theme Songs is in it’s second seed this week. Winners so far have been the Spongebob theme song, Inspector Gadget, Powerpuff Girls, Pink Panther, and Kim Possible!
Technology
K-2 practiced:
Keyboarding: Locate and Type Letters F, G, H, I, and J
The learners receive direct instruction and practice in keyboarding the letters F, G, H, I, and J as they locate and type the letters, recognize the letter sounds, and learn the relationship between the letters on the keyboard and on the screen in this engaging and interactive digital lesson.

In this course, students learn about about how computing technology has changed the world in many important ways.
PE
This week in PE, students will play a throwing & catching game called “perfect pass” in order to enhance their skills. Please remember to send students to school in athletic sneakers on their designated PE days. Thank you!
Spanish
K-2 Students are counting 1-20.
3rd grade ordering food
4th-5th grade Writing sentences using “AR-ER-IR” verbs. Also, using words from their Clothing Vocabulary to dress for the office. In addition, students will be role playing ordering food.
