Corona High School - A Tradition of Excellence Since 1896
Greetings, Panther Families
On January 28th we held our annual 8th Grade Parent Night to showcase our programs and pathways to our incoming Panthers and their families. Those who attended learned a great deal about our STEM Academy, Career Technical Education (CTE) & Visual/Performing Arts (VAPA) pathways, AVID, Puente, Leadership, Upward Bound, and athletics. There was a lot of excitement about all the amazing opportunities available to our students and a great way to meet the teachers, counselors, and administrators that make all these programs possible. If you missed this event you can always contact the school to learn more.
Attention DLI families: Our separate 8th Grade DLI Information Night will be held on Thursday, February 7th at 6:00 pm in our library. This is your opportunity to learn more about what the program looks like at Corona High School. We will be contacting families via phone.
Please note these important dates:
- February 11th: NO SCHOOL
- February 15th: MINIMUM DAY (release at 11:50 am)
- February 18th: NO SCHOOL
Respectfully,
Antonio Gonzalez, Ed.D.

Engineering Pathway
The freshman Engineering students just completed their first major design challenge. They were given random materials, such as cardboard, tubing, straws, pipe cleaners, rubber bands, etc. and had to create a ChoreMaster prototype; that is, they had to design a device that would make a common chore at home easier. The students had to create a PowerPoint presentation and explain to the class how the device works and how it makes the chore easier to complete.
There were several "pooper scooper" designs, many that would automatically bag the waste, a detergent spray bottle with built in brush and scrubbing heads, a telescoping dusting brush with swivel head, as well as an innovative robotic lawnmower that would actually kill weeds while it mowed the grass, and a robotic floor cleaner that could differentiate between hard floors and carpet, to name a few. Future engineers on the rise!

Funky Phresh Krew (FPK)
FPK began their competition season this past week in San Diego on the right track. The group met their goal of earning their highest opening score ever, finishing just behind last year's state and national champions. Last year FPK placed third at Nationals in Florida. Looking for another strong finish this season! Way to go, Panthers!

February Awareness
- National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February
- February is the shortest month but is packed full of holidays, from Valentine’s Day to Presidents’ Day. February is also National Random Acts of Kindness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to reinforce compassion and empathy in your child.
- Performing a random act of kindness is exactly what it sounds like: deliberately attempting to brighten someone else’s day by doing something kind for no specific reason. The intention behind it is to practice selflessness and altruism, but research has shown that there are, in fact, many benefits to practicing kindness. For children, showing kindness towards family, friends, their community, and strangers strengthens skills such as respect, responsibility, empathy, and compassion.
- There are so many ways for you to join in and participate in this month. Take a look at a few ideas: https://www.bgcconejo.org/february-is-random-acts-of-kindness-month/
- Every year, approximately 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner. It is also known that 3 in 4 parents have never talked to their children about domestic violence. In light of these alarming facts, every year during the month of February advocates join efforts to raise awareness about dating violence, highlight promising practices, and encourage communities to get involved.
