If your child is entering 12th grade they are required to have an additional vaccine:

Immunizations must be updated before September 23! Seniors who have not received their required immunization or have an exemption will not be allowed to attend after that date until proof can be provided. If you are unsure if your child is up to date please contact your primary care provider or the Texas County Health Department. Those exemptions need to be updated yearly with the child's school and are available at the Texas County Health Department.

September is Suicide Prevention Month
Suicide is preventable. According the Mayo Clinic (https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/tween-and-teen-health/in-depth/teen-suicide/art-20044308), here are some signs to watch for:
- Talking or writing about suicide — for example, making statements such as "I'm going to kill myself," or "I won't be a problem for you much longer"
- Withdrawing from social contact
- Having mood swings
- Increasing use of alcohol or drugs
- Feeling trapped, hopeless or helpless about a situation
- Changing normal routine, including eating or sleeping patterns
- Doing risky or self-destructive things
- Giving away belongings when there is no other logical explanation for why this is being done
- Developing personality changes or being severely anxious or agitated when experiencing some of the warning signs listed above
If you or someone you know may be suicidal, please call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, services or your local emergency numbers.
Houston Community Night @ Hammons Field
It was a great evening at Hammons Field with the Springfield Cardinals as Houston Schools was honored in multiple ways. The 2022 Softball team was recognized for winning the District Championship. The 2022 Scholar Bowl Team was recognized for winning the State Championship Title. The "First Pitch" Band Fundraiser raised almost $3,000 with Mrs. Shari McAllister winning the opportunity to throw out the honorary first pitch. The HHS Tiger Band played the National Anthem to start the game.
It was a great night at the ballpark!
Band Swag
It's time for apparel orders! We have tee shirts, long sleeve tees, sweaters, hoodies, and jackets available to band members. Orders are due September 16th, along with payment. We will run another order later on, but you're going to want something for the fall and winter!
Anyone can order band swag, including school staff!
Fill out this form to order apparel: tinyurl.com/houstonapparel2022
Checks can be made out to Houston Bands.
Also - parents - Attend our quarterly parent meeting this Tuesday, September 13th from 7:00 to 7:45! This is for all of our parents, and the goal is to give you more transparency as to what's happening in band and why we do things the way we do them.
Maybe you'd like to volunteer down the road? Maybe you've never seen the space your child rehearses in every day? Perhaps we've never met each other? Perhaps you want to hear about the plans we have for MS this year? Maybe you want to be a few years ahead of the curve on our next big trip? You should definitely attend!
