The Gossett Column: WEATHER DELAY

Due to anticipated icy road conditions on bridges and overpasses and continued precipitation and freezing temperatures expected throughout the night, Cornerstone Christian School students and staff will have a DELAYED START Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

This DELAYED START is the initial decision that has been made in the safety interests of our shareholders.

The DELAYED START on TUESDAY, JANUARY 31, 2023 also provides the CCS Administration team time to survey the road conditions following sunrise and pivot as needed to ensure the safety of our people. A full closure has not been ruled out, but at this time and until after sunrise tomorrow, the decision has been set at a DELAYED START for TUESDAY, January 31, 2023.

CCS Administration has been watchful of weather and road conditions through the National Weather Service, TxDOT, the Department of Public Safety and other local agencies. The safety of our students and staff are our top priority.

It is important to note that decisions made regarding school delays and/or closures are not based on temperature, but icy road conditions that make travel dangerous.

Continue to check local media channels for further weather-related updates.

In the event that it is possible for some or most shareholders to travel safely to school, we will have a school delay.

This has happened with CCS frequently when SAISD and surrounding public ISD's opted to cancel school. The reasons we might choose to have a DELAY over a closure are due to our requirement to make up any school cancellation.

When a school delay is enacted, it is important for our message to be one of "Stay Safe, but come if you are able."

On a weather delay day, an absence is still an absence, but should not calculate punitively as far as missing an assignment due date, becoming an issue regarding perfect attendance, placing a student in attendance recovery, or the like.

Ultimately, we need and want our family safe - so be safe.

In addition, a social media alert (https://www.facebook.com/ccsofsanangelo) (https:twitter.com/@CCSSanAngelo) will be sent, a Nixle alert (text CCSPARENTS to 888-777 to receive alert) will be sent, and a notice to the Standard Times (gosanangelo.com) will be sent.
