Multicultural Committee News
Did you receive the book WISHTREE at conferences? If not, your youngest student will be bringing it home today!
Get excited for our OAK GROVE READS month coming up in April! EVERYONE IS READING THE BOOK TOGETHER! Every bus driver, custodian, teacher, aide, secretary, Extended Care member and faculty member will be reading along with our family. If your family does not receive a book, please contact Mrs. Kiefer at skiefer@ogschool.org. Books are being delivered to the youngest child in each family. Each book has a yellow bookmark with the dates for reading.
Activities will be finalized at our next Multicultural Committee meeting. We plan to share activities with you each week in April. Activities will take place during homeroom, but there WILL be activities in Library K-8 and SEL K-5. There will be times when we will STOP EVERYTHING and listen to a chapter being read over the PA system. Optional discussion questions will be shared with your families via email and a paper copy sent home with your youngest child in each family.
There will be a family trivia night on April 30th and our culminating activity will be every child writing a wish and adding it to our fake tree. We will also be planting a real tree on May 1st, weather permitting.
We hope you enjoy reading this book as a family!
There will be a Multicultural Committee meeting Wednesday at 9:00 am in the Elementary library; hope to see you there! Let's get ready to talk WISHTREE!

Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
As shared at previous Board meetings and during the TAG parent night in February, we are implementing the updated rubrics for placement into the TAG program based on five years of Oak Grove historical data. With the updated placement process, the on-grade level math program is also being updated.
We are very excited to share that our students are high performers in the area of mathematics and we are adjusting our course pacing to maximize their fullest potential. Beginning in sixth grade, students in our on-grade level program will have a four day instructional week and on the fifth day, students will have the opportunity to work on an independent project of choice related to the content being covered in class or extending their work beyond the classroom. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to experience how math is used in the “real world” as well as opportunities to go deeper within an area of study. For a visual that shows the transition implementation click HERE. In addition, this will be the topic of April’s ‘Talk Tuesday’, the morning of April 28th.
