MARCH BOOK MADNESS
Read Across America is now a year-long celebration of books, and the March theme is “Stories of Friendship and Kindness.” We are excited to once again participate in March Book Madness here at Heritage and read books that help cultivate compassion in our students. All of the books chosen feature characters who have experienced kindness from or provided kindness to others. They are books that can be mirrors and windows for our students: mirrors, to possibly reflect their own lives, and windows to give them a peek at someone else’s life. The books are recent, and they are written by nationally-recognized authors.

· New this year, parents will have the opportunity to choose the days/time of music lessons for their students. The music lessons formats are very different this summer. Most lessons are offered in a more frequent and condensed format. Please see the catalog for details. Most lessons only take up a portion of a class period. If parents want their student to have a full summer school schedule, they will need to register their student for another enrichment class during that time period. The student would leave that enrichment class to attend their music lesson at their assigned time.
· Music opportunities in summer school have greatly expanded. This summer there are multiple music camps which have been added. Please note these camps take place after the summer school day has ended. There is no transportation provided for these camps.
New courses added in 2023:
o Coding Grades 1-2
o Coding Grades 3-4
o An additional section of Get Ready to Babysit (grades 5-6)
o Call of the Waunakee Wild (grades 7-8)

Front Door Buzzer Security System and Visitors
All people entering the building will need to present a picture ID such as a drivers license which will be scanned into the system. If a DL is not available we can use other forms of identification. Upon approval the system will print out a visitor's badge. You will not need to present an ID if you are simply dropping off a student, having a meeting in the office area or picking up student homework.
We appreciate your patience, understanding and support of establishing a secure school environment. If you have any questions on this system, please feel free to contact the office.
SCHOOL START TIME & END TIMES
School starts at 7:40 and ends at 2:40
The elementary school day begins at 7:40 a.m.
Students may enter through doors #1, #4 and #24.
All exterior doors lock automatically at 7:40. If students arrive after that time, they must enter through door #1 and get a pass to class. Students are expected to be in their classroom (not locker or hallway), ready to learn by the 7:40 bell or will be marked tardy.
Students should not arrive on school grounds before 7:15 a.m.
Students who arrive before 7:15 a.m. will be unsupervised causing concern for student safety. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Please review with your child(ren) that upon arrival to school, students should place backpacks in lockers or cubbies, then quickly and quietly walk to the cafeteria for breakfast or to the playground and remain outside until the first bell rings at 7:35 a.m. Students are not to be hanging in the halls or classrooms.
The elementary school day ends at 2:40 p.m.
Shuttle bus students will be released at 2:30, all other students at 2:40. It is the expectation that families will pick up students promptly at the end of the school day. Students should be picked up at 2:40 p.m. at the elementary schools.
LATE ARRIVALS/EARLY OUT - for all late arrivals or students leaving early - For the safety of the child(ren) - we ask that parents come to the main entrance and sign their child(ren) in or out.
If your child is running late or will be in after 8:30 - we ask that you notify the office as soon as possible.
Click here for more information on drop off instructions and dismissal and arrival information.
