GHP Attendees Announced
The Governor's Honors Program is a state summer program for gifted and talented students. To be selected to attend GHP students are put through a rigorous selection process which includes required assignments, an interview, and an audition or simulation, all meant to showcase their expertise in their chosen area of nomination. We are proud to announce that GWA has three students who will be attending this summer's GHP.
- Riley Edwards (Chemistry)
- Michael Mealor (Brass)
- Jackson Wimberly - alternate (Percussion)
Congratulations to and well-wishes for these three students as they work and study with other top students in the state on the campus of Georgia Southern this June!
Next Level Art
Our Fine Arts program shines through the incredible works of our talented students. Mr. Jameson's AP 3D Art students are preparing to submit their AP portfolios on May 5. These juniors are specializing in in-depth conceptual portfolios. They have dedicated an extensive amount of time, with each project requiring anywhere from 90 to 120 hours. From the very beginning of their brainstorming process to completing the AP questions and statements, their project conceptualization and systematic investigation is heavily involved and thoroughly thought out. Additionally, each technique they use in creating their works requires great precision, time, and detail. Junior Alina Aponte said, “My AP portfolio project is over the feelings of anxiety. I had a lot of fun digging into my emotions and expressing them through my art.” We look forward to seeing the completed works from these creative and hardworking students.
Broadway Beat
This morning, the fifth-grade chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Debbie Dyer, presented “Broadway Beat,” a show featuring performances of popular Broadway numbers from Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Annie, Rent and a medley of songs by composer George Cohen. Bravo, to our young singers!

Easter Tradition
GWA fifth graders continued the Easter tradition of taking beautiful Easter baskets full of generously donated items to the Walton County Senior Citizens Center. They toured the center and learned about the many activities available for the senior citizens of Walton County. The seniors were entertained with a performance by the fifth-grade chorus followed by the whole grade joining in the exercise class! As always, our GWA students were given a warm welcome and enjoyed the morning spending time with the seniors. This annual trip is one that always fills the heart!
Prospective families are invited to join us on campus for our last Admissions event of the school year. Please help us spread the word! Interested families may register for the upcoming Open House online (please click HERE to sign up).
