Owls in Flight Information
Thank you for attending the teacher information meeting!
Please see Coach Payne or Mrs. Kiser for any questions!
Owls in Flight Committee- The 1st Annual Fun Run was conceptualized in July 2022 by the LPE Leadership Committee while reviewing the campus improvement plan. The committee has held several planning meetings throughout the year. Members: Michael Payne, Amy Durbin, Jacqueline Troutz, Clancie Santure, Kelly Campbell, Autumn Wood, Shea Pisano, Brent Caldwell, Vanessa Kiser, and Jerome Scott (EMS Campus Security).
Why: The Fun Run is an opportunity for students to transfer their PE skills to a real-life activity
What: Optional opportunity for students to showcase their jogging skills. Parents are invited to run/walk with their student. 1st, 2nd, 3rd place medals will be awarded to each boy and girl (six total medals per grade level). Students are encouraged to run/walk but not required. Students must have a permission form to participate due to running in parking lot (K-1) and running off campus (2-5).
When: April 28 (rain/inclement weather event is canceled)
Where: The route will begin in the back of the building near the circle drive. 2nd- 5th grade students will run a mile beginning in the back parking lot and continue down Mountain Bluff. Kinder & 1st will run a shorter route in the parking lot area. We encourage grade levels to come out and cheer on the Block class before or after their assigned time.
Additional Information:
Volunteers will be needed for this event. We will have volunteers positioned down Mountain Bluff on both sides of the street to ensure student safety.
Mrs. K will be riding her bike along the students as another safety net.
Two staff members will be driving a Gator with each set of runners to be ready to serve in any capacity for injury/encouragement.
Two nurses will be on campuses. Nurse Howle will have a mobile clinic outside, and a district nurse will be inside monitoring the daily needs of the clinic.
We will have a water station and electrolyte station to ensure all Owls are well hydrated.
The Boswell High School Running coach will be in attendance with some of his athletes to help support and volunteer that day. This will foster a relationship with our feeder pattern and future Pioneer runners.
Multiplication Contest 3rd-5th
Date Change to April 13
Luminous Leaders,
LPE is piloting a multiplication contest for 3rd – 5th graders. Students will complete a written multiplication test consisting of 0-12 facts. They will have one minute to correctly answer up to 100 facts. The top 2 students from each homeroom will advance to the final competition on March 30, 2023. The final competition will be verbal, and students will have 5 seconds to answer each multiplication fact.
- Timed tests will be placed in all 3rd-5th teachers' boxes by March 3rd.
- Please encourage students to practice over Spring Break.
- Teachers will administer the test AFTER Spring Break and submit the top 2 students from each homeroom to Mrs. Holsomback by March 24th.
- Written Test Day-
- Give each student a test face down
- Students print their name on the back of the test.
- Set a timer for one minute, have the students flip over their test and begin.
- Students may skip around and do not have to go in order.
- After one minute collect the tests and score. Each correct answer is one point.
- The top 2 scorers from each homeroom will advance to the competition.
- If there is a tie, please use the “Tie-Breaker Test” to determine which students will advance. Team Leads will have the “Tie-Breaker Test”.
Sincerely,
Math Teachers

Electronic Communication with Parents
Please see the information below regarding electronic communication with parents. Principals were asked to share this reminder with staff. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for maintaining open lines of communication with our Owl families.
- Electronic Communications with Parents - See page 48 – 6th bullet of the Employee Handbook:
All staff are required to use school email accounts for all electronic communications with parents. Communication about school issues through personal email accounts or text messages are not allowed as they cannot be preserved in accordance with the district’s record retention policy, Please share this with your teachers and other staff that may be communicating with parents. Texting with parents is not a supported option. I wanted to make sure you were aware of this. That would include words or pictures.
- Here is a guide from Cindy Peavey that describes the role of a teacher assistant. The question most asked is in reference to teacher assistants and parent communication. Here is an excerpt from page 22 that answers the question: See page 22 of the attached document from TEA – “Explain to parent that all communication must come from the teacher. Direct all questions or concerns to the teacher”. I also attached a Field User Guide (also from TEA) as another resource.
CLARIFICATION:
- Remind messages and/or Class DOJO are fine for teacher/parent texts. If a teacher receives a phone text from a parent, the teacher should respond in Remind/DOJO instead of responding to the phone text.

Classroom Incentive Idea from Mrs. Pisano
One PBIS system I use in my classroom is called the Sticker Store. Each student has a ten frame that I place in a location that is easily visible for the student and easily accessible for me. Throughout the day the students can earn check marks for following directions the first time. If they earn ten check marks by the end of the day, they get to choose 1 sticker from my sticker store. I place all of my stickers in a pocket chart so the students can see what they are working towards. I ask the students what kinds of stickers they would want and try to purchase them for our sticker store. As an incentive to try to get check marks each day, if a student earns a sticker each day for one week their name is entered into a raffle for a custom sticker. My students love working to earn their stickers and proudly display them on their water bottles and personal items.

Sagacious Scholars Offering Tutoring for 3rd & 4th Graders!
Mrs. Beauchamp's homeroom kids are starting a wonderful opportunity of tutoring 3rd & 4th grade owls that might need some extra help. They will provide this opportunity in the mornings from 7:50-8:20. Please fill out the pass that you will find in your box and send your student on down to room 234. This can be for any subject, help with homework, or simply just reading with a tutor. Please make sure to fill out the “special instructions” part of the pass, so the tutor will know exactly what is expected of them and have your student bring the appropriate work with them. Please send 2 kids per class each morning to help with population control, please 😉. Mrs. Beauchamp hopes this will be a helpful tool to your students. Thank you for allowing these fifth grade students an opportunity to flourish in this leadership role on the campus. This will begin Monday, January 30.
Please let Mrs. Beauchamp know if you have any questions, have a wonderful day!
We are looking for volunteers to share their careers in May!
