Math in the Mix
Each year Mrs. Griggs' fourth-grade students finish up their fractions unit with a real-world application. After subtracting their necessary ingredients from the "pantry" using their mixed number knowledge, students measure, mix, scoop and bake cookies in small groups. Fourth graders learned the importance of attending to precision in mathematics as well as baking. Mrs. Griggs hopes that connecting math to real-world projects helps her students see the value of what they learn in class. Special thanks to the parents who helped with this lesson!
Messy Data
Fifth-grade students in Mrs. Hutter’s math class learned how to “clean up” messy data by organizing the data on plots and graphs. The mess was created by taking surveys with sticky notes and then balling them up and throwing the “data” to the front of the room. The data was then cleaned up and organized on plots and graphs so that it can be easily read and interpreted! What a fun way to learn how to not only create and interpret plots and graphs but to also realize how useful they can be in the real world!
Your Vote Matters!
On Saturday, March 9 we are hosting our annual Lucky Dawg Gala & Benefit Auction. During the evening, we live auction off eight of our amazing grade-level projects that have been put together by the parents and students of each respective grade-level. How do we decide which ones go live auction, and which others are included in the silent auction since they are all fantastic? Well, we don't. You do! Please select the eight projects you vote to be a part of our live auction this year. Click the link above to vote for your favorite eight! Voting ends this Friday at noon.
Enter to WIN!
Each year at our Gala, we randomly select a lucky winner who receives their choice of any of our four amazing trip packages offered as part of this year's raffle. Each raffle entry is $100 and no more than 200 tickets will be sold.
