Parents I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your attendance and support that you showed the students of WPS during our PTA/Black History Program this week. All of our students did an awesome job during their performances. It was a pleasure to look across our multi-purpose room and see standing room only. Parents please be reminded that we are in need of volunteers for the 2022-2023 PTA as our current officers transition out. Below you will find a link to the sign-up form please complete and submit the form. We would love to have all of our parents active members of our WPS PTA, because "We do it better when we do it together". Again thank you for all that you do for WPS.

Kindergarten:

• Kindergarten family we will be learning about Black History next week.
• On Tuesday 2/22/22, we will be having our TWOSDAY Celebrations. We will be doing several 2s activities. Students are allowed to wear their tutus, tiaras, and ties on that day.
• Please continue to work with your child on their sight words and read with them nightly. Homework is due Friday of each week.

First Grade:

Next week in reading, we will be reading books about presidents and President’s Day. In math, we are going to be working with the equal sign (i.e., 4+1 = 3+2). Our phonics sound will be long o with -oa and -ow. Our science focus will be on living things.

Reminders:

• Continue to study sight words, as well as read take-home books daily

• Please make sure your child has a water bottle and an extra mask with them every day

*We’ve had a lot of extra talking in all first grade classes this week. Please encourage your child to remain focused and on task with minimal talking.*

Second Grade:

• Please remember to bring a water bottle and an extra mask to school each day.
• Continue to read AR books and complete the reading log.
• Students need to continue practicing math facts to 20.
• Parents, make sure you are checking your child’s homework folder each night. It is important for students to complete homework. The homework helps to reinforce skills taught in class.

• Tuesday, February 22, 2022 is Two’s Day. Don’t forget that students can wear tutus, ties, tiaras, and tennis shoes to celebrate.

• Please encourage your child to do their best each day. We try to remind students that they have to have 80% positive behavior in order to go to Fun Day.

Media Center

• All Library Students: All grade levels are enjoying checking out books from our library. Kindergarteners can check out 1 book per week. 1st Graders can check out up to 3 books per week. 2nd graders can check up to 5 books out per week. This is so students will enjoy variety and have plenty of reading material at home.
• Please make sure to ask your students about their books. They have been advised to keep books in BOOKBAGS when not in use, so that it won’t be forgotten. They will need to return old books before they can checkout new ones.
• If you have any WPS library books, even from last year, you can still turn them back in. If you have lost or damaged a book beyond repair, you can buy the same book to replace it or write a note to me, so that we can work out payment or solution to the missing or damaged book.
