Crockett Cougar Chatter
September 2020
CRAWFORD'S CORNER
The start of school is fast approaching. This Back to School Chatter is filled with extremely important information below. Typically, we would be sending out information and event dates with more advanced notice given we would have had all summer to plan. However, with circumstances changing daily, we had to make some decisions at the last minute and we wanted to make sure you had the most accurate information. We apologize in advance as this is not typically how we like to do business.
We also recognize this is a lot of information for your family to digest. Please take some time together to read through the Chatter. If you still have questions, there are some times for you to engage with administrators via Zoom (details below) and, if you are unable to make those, please call the Crockett main phone line at 512-414-2532.
Thanks, in advance, for your patience and flexibility as we recreate education through this new virtual world. We are thrilled to be interacting with our students, even virtually, again soon.
Always Victorious,
Kori Crawford
Principal
Crockett ECHS

Technology Concerns
ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE ACCESS TO A CHROMEBOOK (OR PERSONAL DEVICE), CHARGER, AND INTERNET BY SEPTEMBER 8TH.
If your Chromebook needs to be repaired, please click this link to view the curbside tech drop off instructions.
Please let us know if you need a device, hotspot or charger in the Crockett Family Survey below in order to be ready to begin instruction on September 8th.
NEW TECHNOLOGY REQUEST FOR FAMILIES
If you need internet Hotspots, please contact Janice Snyder via email at janice.snyder@austinisd.org or call her at 512-414-7884 (Office) or 512-827-7413 (Google Cell)
Need a device? Instructions for how to get Chromebooks and chargers:
FROM AUSTIN ISD - To get this technology to families who need it, we have created an Austin ISD Cloud Technology Distribution tile for both staff and families. Through this tile in the Parent Cloud, families will be able to submit device requests and monitor status.
Families who are not able to use the Parent Cloud can contact their campus, and campus staff can log the family’s request in the Austin ISD Staff Cloud.
We encourage families to provide this information as soon as possible so that students can receive technology support as soon as it becomes available.
To use this system, families need to set up their Parent Cloud accounts. Families can ask their school office staff to send a “FastPass” email to the primary email address on file, or they can click on the "Parent Cloud Account Creation" button at my.austinisd.org. Families can also contact the Parent Support line for assistance at 512-414-9187, Option 6.
While we continue to work toward every student having access to a device and the Internet, we will continue to provide an alternative to online learning for students without access. This will include the delivery of instructional packets and/or instructional resources with an assignment list for each week of remote instruction.

Key facts for the first day of school
Dear Crockett ECHS families,
School starts on September 8 and we realize that you may have questions about what that will look like. Austin ISD released the most comprehensive overview of our reopening plans, and we encourage you to review the document that addresses specific areas.
In the meantime, here is an outline of some basic need-to-know information about the start of school:
- The first day of school is now Sept. 8.
- The first four weeks — from Sept. 8 to Oct. 5 — will be remote. If your student needs access to technology, please contact us at 512-414-2532 as soon as possible.
- The next four weeks (Oct. 5 - 30) will be a phase-in period. Families will choose if they prefer on-campus or virtual learning for this period and families who prefer on-campus learning will be phased in. We will continue to base our campus and district operations on the advice of health authorities. It is important to note: even students who choose on-campus instruction may have some days where they are still doing remote learning during this period.
- Families will choose if they prefer on-campus or remote instruction within two weeks of returning to campuses Oct. 5 via a form that will be sent to your email.
- Austin ISD families will be able to choose to go back to remote learning based on their individual comfort level.
You can always reach out to us at 512-414-2532 with questions. Thank you for being a part of the Crockett ECHS community.

Remote Virtual Learning Expectations:
During remote virtual learning, Students will remotely attend their classes each day following the 9am-4:40pm regular bell schedule and the 2020-21 A/B calendar. To help students develop positive routines and to promote engagement, there will be some amount of synchronous (live) instruction every class period and some amounts of asynchronous learning (on their own).
In contrast to remote learning last spring, for school year 20-21 students must attend 90% of the days a course is offered (per Texas Education Code (TEC), §25.092), in order to be awarded credit for a course and/or to be promoted to the next grade.
Students will be responsible for completing and submitting work for each class period on each instructional day and will receive grades for their work that will be reflected on progress reports, report cards, and the student’s transcript.
Teachers will provide support in BLEND for students who are unable to attend synchronous instruction due to extenuating circumstances. Even if your child does not attend the synchronous class session, they are still responsible for the content and work assigned either synchronously or asynchronously for that day in BLEND by 11:59pm to receive credit for attending that course on that day. We encourage students to commit to the structure of their daily class schedule and make arrangements to be online at the designed class times to maximize their virtual learning experience.
CROCKETT 2020 YEARBOOKS ARE STILL ON SALE!
The 2020 Crockett High School yearbook is only available for purchase online until September 11. After this date, online sales will shift to the 2021 Crockett High School yearbook.
A third distribution date for any student who needs to pick up their 2020 yearbook and accessories is being organized for after the September 11 date. If you still would like to purchase a 2020 Crockett High School yearbook, you may do so at JostensYearbooks.com.
The 2020 yearbook includes photos, quotes and memories from the entire school year including a spread on the shutdown of schools, the spread of COVID, our switch to online learning and the senior graduation parade. This yearbook is unlike any other!
If there are any 2020 yearbooks left after September 11, you will be able to purchase one in person once schools open again. Leftover yearbooks are not guaranteed as we usually sell out.
