From our Department Chairs
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
Hello parents,
We have just completed our 4th week of distance learning with grades. Please note that students with a grade of “I” have a missing assignment in the grade book. If you have any questions about grades, please contact your student’s English teacher. This week we have several messages for parents.
STAAR PARENTS: As a reminder, if your student passes his/her English I or II course for the year, due to the Covid-19 quarantine, the STAAR test that the student would have taken this year will be waived. For this reason it is imperative that parents and students are closely monitoring grades. If you have a question regarding what you are seeing on Skyward or on Google Classroom, please reach out to teachers.
AP PARENTS: AP tests begin next week. AP Literature (seniors) will take place on May 13th @1:00 pm; AP Language (juniors) will take place on May 20th @1:00 pm. Please make sure that your student has verified all information with College Board as this is how College Board will send student’s the testing ticket. Additionally, timed practice exams have been posted on YouTube to mimic the actual exam situation. Simply log onto YouTube, search Advanced Placement playlists, and click on the appropriate subject (AP Language or AP Literature.) Videos 29 and 31 under both courses offer practice tests.
Finally, LIBRARY information from Mrs Owen: Library Books and other campus materials can be dropped off on May 13th or 14th. See PHS website for details. If you owe fees (and if you have lost the book), you can pay through the Webstore found on the PFISD Student Tab. There are NO overdue fees, only lost book fees. If you turn in a book that you paid for this year, you will be refunded.
English teachers would like to thank you for your continued support in our ongoing distance learning situation. Teachers are seeing great work turned in from our diligent, hard-working students.
Sincerely,
Lisa Wernli
English Department Chair
SOCIAL STUDIES DEPARTMENT
Hello Panthers!
This week the Social Studies teachers are excited to see so many of our students turning in work for the first time. Just as a reminder there is no late penalty this semester so please encourage your students to go back and complete any assignment they have not done yet. We need 7 grades to average for your 9 weeks average so make sure there are no missing or incomplete assignments in the grade book. Students can also resubmit test/quizzes or any assignment if the original grade was not passing.
If there is any confusion about assignments please reach out to teachers via email (first.last@pfisd.net) or through Google Classroom. We are here to help our students finish strong!
A special shout out to our Senior Class of 2020- your teachers want to see all of you at graduation which is just a few weeks away. It is time to get busy if you are behind so we can certify our Seniors for graduation.
Have a great Panther week!

STAAR EOC Courses - Important Information (English & Español)
Dear Parents,
I wanted to check in and give you some information about STAAR EOC testing for the school year 2019-2020.
If your student is enrolled in a STAAR tested subject this school year, this email will pertain to them. STAAR tested subjects include English I, English II, Algebra I, Biology, and U.S. History.
Per TEA (Texas Education Agency):
- There will be no STAAR EOC administrations for both spring 2020 and summer 2020. These administrations have been waived by TEA.
- A student currently enrolled in a STAAR EOC class who is a first-time tester for the corresponding STAAR EOC is not required to take and pass the STAAR EOC as long as the STUDENT PASSES THE COURSE by August of 2020.
Please discuss this with your student and advise them of the importance of the Distance Learning assignments. These MUST be completed so that the grade they receive for this 4th nine weeks does not affect their ability to pass a STAAR tested subject. If they fail the class, they will repeat the class AND take the STAAR test for that class. Any questions please reach out to me.
Dr. Sara Butler
Assistant Principal: Testing/Intervention

BrightBytes – survey for ALL students and parents
Dear Pflugerville High School Campus Community,
We are partnering with BrightBytes, an educational research organization, to learn more about you and your students’ technology access and use for learning.
The goal of this project is to gather data on technology access, skills, and your school’s technology environment, in order to understand the connection between technology use and student achievement.
Our data collection window is set to run from March 30 - May 27, 2020.
Each school is assigned three unique Technology and Learning Questionnaires. There is one designed for teachers and administrators; one designed for students, and one designed for parents.
Your questionnaire links are listed below:
Your participation and support is important to us and will make the difference between having a complete understanding of our school’s technology use versus a limited one.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
Victor Valdez, Chief Technology Officer
Kathryn Ives, Director Integration Services
