What Important Medical Information Should You Review?

Doctors provide a diagnosis for patients and often used terms that are confusing for the patient. To bridge this gap in knowledge, patients can educate themselves about these terms to learn more about their current medical conditions. Reviewing the terms helps the patients avoid confusion and understand what these conditions are.

What Does Anti-Inflammatory Mean?

In Important Medical Information, patients may see the word anti-inflammatory. The term refers to medications that reduce swelling and inflammation in the body. Over-the-counter medications that offer anti-inflammatory properties include Motrin, Advil, and any form of ibuprofen. The medication is given to individuals with conditions such as arthritis that could experience swelling of their joints that is debilitating. The medications also provide pain relief and reduce the frequency of inflammation.

What is Hypertension?

Medical terms explain the patient’s condition and show medical professionals what the patient requires to regulate the condition. For example, hypertension is a term that refers to patients who experience high blood pressure frequently and require medication to keep their blood pressure at a safer level. Typically, the doctors provide prescription medication to regulate the blood pressure and provide the patient with stress coping mechanisms to lower their stress levels. Hypertension must be managed properly to prevent the patient from experiencing a heart attack or stroke.

What is the Difference Between Invasive and Non-Invasive?

When it comes to procedures, doctors will tell the patient in the important medical information that the procedure is either invasive or non-invasive. Invasive describes most surgical procedures when the surgeon must cut open the body to perform a repair or remove a damaged organ. Non-invasive means the surgeon will not have to open the body to complete the procedure. Minimally invasive indicates that the doctor will cut a small incision that presents minimal scarring.

What is Difference Between Edema and Embolism?

Heart patients must become acquainted with the terms edema and embolism. Edema is swelling in the extremities that is caused by poor circulation. Typically, the edema develops in the legs. An embolism is a blood clot. When the doctor treats edema, they may provide compression socks. For an embolism, the doctor will perform a surgery to remove the blood clot and prevent health risks.
