2021-2022 Classroom Placement Questionnaire
Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS)
Dear Longmont Estates Elementary Families,
Thank you for your continued partnership in advancing academic growth for our students. As you know, April is the window for the administration of Colorado’s required state assessment. This year, we will be administering these required assessments on the following dates and times:
3rd Grade Language Arts
(Window 12:45-2:30)
April 12, 13, 14
4th Grade Math
(Window 8:30-10:00)
April 12, 13, 14
5th Grade Language Arts
(Window 11:00-12:45)
April 12, 13, 14
A federal waiver was granted on March 26, 2021 creating the following optional assessments:
Grades 4 English Language Arts (CMAS)
Grade 3, 5 Mathematics (CMAS)
If you would like your student to take the optional CMAS ELA or Math test in addition to the one which is required, please email Tara Roeder at roeder_tara@svvsd.org by April 8, 2021. If you do not want them to take the optional test, you do not need to do anything.
St. Vrain Valley Schools utilizes assessment data and additional data sources to identify ways to increase student achievement. The goal is to provide rich learning opportunities that engage students and prepare them for success in the 21st century. Data collected from these state-mandated exams contribute to St. Vrain Valley Schools’ comprehensive suite of tools and programs designed to enhance student achievement, promote diversified and individualized learning opportunities, identify areas of need to support early intervention, and provide valuable data that helps inform future curriculum and instructional development.
Students who are learning remotely will have the opportunity to take the assessments in-person at the school. Whether your children come in for testing is your decision, and no negative consequences will be imposed should you choose not to send them. Please contact me directly for specific test scheduling for remote learners.
To help your student best prepare for success on these assessments, we encourage students to get a restful night’s sleep, eat breakfast, and bring a clean water bottle to school. If you have any questions about how to support your student’s success during these state assessments or have concerns about your child’s participation, please feel free to contact me directly at haley_traci@svvsd.org. While participation is not mandatory, it is encouraged so that we can use the data to continue to improve learning and academic support for our students.
Again, thank you for your continued partnership and support as we continue to support the success of our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Sincerely,
Traci Haley

MRS. SHAFFER’S STEM UPDATE
We finally got to start using our Class VR sets this week! Students in K-2 were able to view plants, insects, and the life cycle of a butterfly in augmented and virtual reality. Next week we’ll have another opportunity, and students will also get to use our Ozobot robots. Ozobots are little robots that are coded by drawing specific colors on a piece of paper. Students can code the robot to do different types of movements based on the colors/lines they draw. These are always a lot of fun. K-2 students will continue with STEM class until April 9th, and 3-5th grade students will start up with STEM again after CMAS testing.
If you are looking for a fun one week STEM Camp this summer, Longmont Estates is hosting Camp Invention in-person June 7th-11th. As the camp director, I am looking for one or two parent volunteers to help out during the week of camp. If you are interested, please contact me. Parent volunteers get a significant discount on camp costs!
As always, please feel free to send me an email with any questions.
Mrs. Shaffer
