Awbrey Park Connection
A snapshot of what is happening at our school
A message from the principal's office
The excitement of the first day of school is behind us and it appears we have had a successful start! It was great to see the students return to in-person learning on campus with minimal disruptions. Our amazing staff will continue to spend a fair amount of time the first several weeks on "care and connect," which is essential to creating a safe and positive positive school climate.
We will continue to make some adjustments to the operational flow of the school day to account for the number of students returning and the protocols for COVID-19. The teachers and educational assistants are doing a wonderful job inside the classrooms working with the students. In the reminder section below, we ask parents to plan ahead for some of the morning and afternoon transitional time to help improve the overall experience during the times before and after school.
Important Reminders:
Our school website has a lot of information and can be located at Awbrey Park.
Our school begins at 8:30 A.M. and ends at 3:00 M-Th. and 1:45 on Fridays. You may drop your child off on school property starting at 8:15. Classrooms will then open at 8:20, and school will start at 8:30.
Unfortunately, due to COVID protocols and keeping our students, staff and families safe, we ask that adults do not walk onto school property (even before and after school). If you need assistance from the office, please call in advance so staff will be prepared for your arrival and be able to quickly expedite your needs.
For kindergarten students, staff will be present before and after school to greet your child, check them in, mark how they will be getting home, and walk them to their class.
If you are walking with your student before or after school, please stay near the front sidewalk and street to meet your student. For safety reasons, adults should not be coming onto the campus to look for or drop off their student. Please communicate to your student a plan to meet and exit the school at the end of the day.
Please help us improve the flow of traffic in the student pick-up area both before and after school. Some things that will be helpful are:
- Have a plan and be as efficient as possible when dropping off/picking up your student.
- Pull forward as far as possible in the loop behind the gym so as to allow other cars to enter the area.
- Plan to not get out of your vehicle unless it is to quickly assist your student into or out of your vehicle.
- If possible, pull ahead to the outside basketball court area on the backside of the loop to buckle up your younger students. It will help the line move quicker and will allow you to secure your student prior to moving onto the public roadway.
Reminder that YMCA has cancelled morning and after school care for September.
