PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Dear Roosevelt Parents,
The PTO Back to School Bash was a fantastic event. Both Mrs. Peters and I survived being taped to the wall. We have a special picture included for everyone to enjoy.
On Friday, October 13 will be our annual Tiger Trot. We will be sharing more information with everyone about the running times. All parents and grandparents are invited to watch us by the track. Please bring your own chair.
Overall, we have some important updates for you, so please take a moment to review the many events and activities happening in the upcoming month.
Dr. Dwyer, Principal

Primary Challenge Information
Our primary challenge teachers just completed the first identification round for Grades 1 and 2. If your student qualifies, families will receive a permission form. The program is intended to be flexible and fluid and students may move in and out of the program through the year. This also means students may qualify one year but not the next. This is to be expected as the academic needs of students in the primary grades can change frequently.
Kindergarten evaluations will begin in mid-October and families will be notified in November. The remaining timeline can be found on our PC calendar. If you would like to learn more about the program, please visit the website or view this short video. Our Primary Challenge FAQ will be able to answer any other questions that you may have about testing, qualifying, and identification for Primary Challenge.

Electronic Device Guidelines
Click the photo to the right for the direct link to the D64 Parent Handbook device policy (p. 24).
Parents can help ensure smartwatches are set to not allow notifications from other apps by placing the device in a mode that does more than silence it. For instance, with an Apple Watch, a parent can put the device in “Schooltime” mode, which limits how the student can use the watch during school. Schooltime mode also easily allows staff members to see that the watch is configured to not be a distraction during school. You can find steps on how to 24 set up Schooltime mode here. Android users can find parental controls by following these steps. Parents can configure wearable smart devices in other available ways as long as students cannot communicate with the device or use any apps during school.
