Junior Olympics!
LETTER FROM YOUR PRINCIPAL
This past Saturday, our community came together for our annual LASD Junior Olympics. It was a wonderful day filled with great weather, hard working student athletes, amazing volunteers and solid sportsmanship. Whether your children are competing or not, it is a wonderful community event filled with excitement. For results of the day, along with other tidbits of information, please visit the JO website.
Speaking of community events, on Sunday, May 7th, from 4-7 pm at Covington School, the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF) will be hosting the LASD Community Festival. Mark your calendar and join us at the LASD Community Family Fun Festival on Sunday, May 7th, at 4 pm on the Covington blacktop and play area. Enjoy food trucks, games, and activities – good food and fun things to do for your family, friends, and neighbors. Watch this video from LASD Superintendent Sandra McGonagle to learn more about the festival, and visit LAEFonline.org/Festival.
Tomorrow we finally have our STEM CHALLENGE at lunch. I hope to see many students with their popcorn containers! We still need volunteers so feel free to show up at lunch and help out.
Lost and Found: Please check the front of the school for any items that have been lost this year. We now have 3 tables full of sweatshirts, jackets, pants, water bottles, hats and more! Friday May 5th will be the last day to have these clothes out and then they will be donated to our sister school in Kenya.
Stay Bobcat Strong!

Principal

THANKS TO OUR AMAZING JUNIOR OLYMPICS PARENT VOLUNTEERS!
Last Saturday’s Junior Olympics was outstanding, thanks to the MANY Santa Rita parent volunteers!
Special appreciation to the Santa Rita Jr. Olympics Committee Chairperson KELLY SANDERS LO, who attended zillions of meetings and organized everything for our Bobcats. It is remarkable to note that she unselfishly invested so much time, despite not having a 4th,5th, or 6th grade child in the JO this year.
Committee members who also spent countless hours on tasks such as entering data for relay teams, entering each child’s events, assembling student information packets/t-shirts, relay team advisor, and softball throw coordinator was JENA WISE, MITCH SMITH, and ALISON GARDNER BIGGS.
Great appreciation also to the dozens of parents who came to help train our Bobcat athletes at school during P.E. classes! There were also many parent relay coaches coaching our 18 relay teams. On the day of the Jr. Olympics, parents signed up to help for Opening Ceremonies, Softball Throw Event, Santa Rita Tent, Setup/Cleanup, and Photographer.
As you can see, the Jr. Olympics could not happen without all of the parents who generously donated their time and talent!!!
Congratulations to torch bearers CATALINA MENDOZA and TOSHIAKI ODA, also to mascots IRIS MEYER and JULIAN JOOS. These 6th grade students were selected because of their positive attitude, enthusiastic participation in all aspects of school, core characteristics, respect and kindness to all, good sportsmanship, and support of the efforts/achievements of others.
A huge shout out to MRS. RAFFERTY AND ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL TEACHERS FOR THEIR SUPPORT! It was fantastic to see them all in their Santa Rita red, marching in the Opening Ceremonies and then in the stands cheering on our Bobcats!!! Speaking of red, we are grateful to the PTA for purchasing T-shirts for all or our 4th graders and new students, as well as their payment for the student Jr. Olympics fees, so that the event is free for all of our children!!!
Finally, and once again, thanks to all of you parents for your support of the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF), which makes our P.E. program possible!!!
