Discover the Magic

It is time for our 6th Annual GISD Dyslexia Symposium! This year we have designated speakers to meet all of our participant's needs. There will be two keynote speakers and breakout sessions for both parents and community members and also those who are professionals within the field of dyslexia.


There will also be an Art Exhibition with artwork created by students with dyslexia. It is a creative and inclusive way to celebrate those with different gifts, creativity and imagination!


Come join us! We are excited to provide you with a quality learning experience. There will be food, fun, prizes and it is free to attend! See you there!

Dr. Melissa Farrall

Reading Assessment: Pathway to Literacy


We are so excited to announce Dr. Melissa Farrall as our professional keynote speaker! Dr. Farrall is the author of Reading Assessment: Linking Language, Literacy, and Cognition, and the co-author of All About Tests & Assessments published by Wrightslaw. Dr. Farrall is Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurological Sciences at University of Vermont College of Medicine. She presents nationally on topics related to assessment, learning disabilities, dyslexia, dysgraphia and intellectual functioning. She has performed nearly 1,000 diagnostic evaluations of children and adolescents.


After earning her doctorate from Brown University in the area of Slavic Linguistics, Dr. Farrall received her Master of Education from Rivier University, where she specialized in learning disabilities.


Dr. Farrall worked as a learning disability specialist in New Hampshire public schools for several years. In 1999 she became a certified Specialist in the Assessment of Intellectual Functioning, focusing on the link between reading and oral language. She taught courses in the structure of language and assessment at Simmons College in Boston and at Rivier University in Nashua, NH. She has worked with the International Dyslexia Association at both the national and branch levels, and she serves as a reviewer for conference speakers. Prior to joining the Stern Center, Dr. Farrall worked as an educational consultant for St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, NH.

Marcy Eisinger, M.S., M.Ed., LDT, LPC, CALT, SLDS Assistant Director, Dyslexia

Dyslexia Fact and Fiction: Characteristics, Red Flags, Misconceptions and Origins


Marcy Eisinger is the Assistant Director of Dyslexia for Garland ISD. She originally was a classroom teacher and went on to become a dyslexia therapist. Prior to joining Garland ISD, she served as Dyslexia Consultant and as has worked at the district level supervising Dyslexia, At-Risk, Section 504 and General Education Homebound.


Marcy has a passion for students with dyslexia and has provided therapy in both public schools and private settings for all types of students ranging from kindergarten to adult. She loves working with parents, community members and organizations to bring awareness and knowledge in this field.


Marcy is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Dyslexia Therapist, Certified Academic Language Therapist and Structured Literacy Dyslexia Therapist through IDA. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas Christian University, Master of Science in Counseling, and Learning Therapist Certification, from Southern Methodist University, and her Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from University of Texas in Arlington.
