PRINCIPAL'S CORNER WITH MRS. GREEN
As I walk the halls at Vickers, I love to see our students working with high-impact math strategies! Additionally, at our most recent PLC, the staff reflected on all the wonderful things we are doing as a school to support our math goal. We continue to also work hard on our literacy skills and had a fantastic turnout at our K-3 Family Literacy Night – “Countdown to Summer”

BAND AND MUSIC AT VICKERS
WOW! As expected, March was a busy and rewarding month in the Vickers Band/Music program with multiple disciplines of the Prince Albert Music Festival running throughout the first half of the month. Vickers was represented at the Festival by soloists in the disciplines of piano, musical theatre, and instrumental, as well as by large groups in the disciplines of choral, instrumental, and band. Congratulations to our solo and small ensemble scholarship winners Austin Mack (piano), Kai Twyver (trumpet), Maryann Odogwu (saxophone), Shawn Manuel (percussion), Sophie Lavoie (tuba), Harnoor Saini & Sophia Lavoie (flute/tuba duet), and Leahcim Adona & Kazeha Crowe (trumpet/clarinet duet). For large ensembles, our Vickers Grade 4 northern spirit flute ensemble, choir, and ALL bands from Grades 5-8 received scholarships! The choir also received a recommendation to the Provincial level of competition, so our recordings will be sent on for adjudication later this spring. There will be a Gala concert at the EA Rawlinson Centre on Monday, April 24th to celebrate the “best of the best” performances from all disciplines, and we are fortunate enough to have had several talented Vickers musicians chosen to perform on that evening. Congratulations Kai, Maryann, and the Grade 4 northern spirit flute ensemble for being selected to perform!
On March 17th students from the Grade 7 Band attended a concert of the U of S Wind Ensemble in Saskatoon, and on March 26th the choir traveled to Saskatoon to attend a concert of the U of S Greystone Singers. The caliber of musicianship that we heard on both of these trips was outstanding, and inspiring for everyone involved. Pair that with a supper at Boston Pizza and it was the perfect recipe for a fun bonding road trip with our classmates!
Up next on the agenda for the music program will be band and choir trips in May and June. Stay tuned for more information (music pun intended)!
Sports On Central
Sports play an important role in helping kids develop into healthy, happy, and contributing members of society through the skills and relationships that can be built through participation in them. Our focus is on local opportunities and providing a way for them to showcase what they can offer, and to give kids a chance to meet coaches, try sports, and learn more about what is available to them through a fun, engaging, and exciting day of activities.
Our vision is to have large playing areas on the streets of downtown PA for football, hockey, basketball and a variety of other clubs to host scrimmages and drills for kids to engage in throughout the day in a safe and inclusive atmosphere.
We also have the Prince Albert Fire Department facing off in a friendly street hockey game against the Prince Albert Police Service, providing a meaningful way for these men and women to engage with the youth who take part in our day, and for the kids to experience authority in a positive and interactive way.
Derrick Moncrief of the Saskatchewan Roughriders will be present for the day to toss the football with the attendees, take pictures and sign autographs, and give a presentation about how faith, family, and football have played such important roles in his life..
This one of a kind event will be held on April 29th, 2023 and you will not want to miss it! Every kid deserves the opportunity to play sport

PEDESTRIAN SAFETY
Our staff parking lots are a “no drop off zone” as they are out of bounds for students.
We urge parents to support us in this safety endeavor by dropping off your children on the west side of the school on Olive Diefenbaker Drive; on Bradbury Drive, east of the Special Needs bus zone and between Gisi Road and Olive Diefenbaker Drive.
We encourage the children to cross all streets in a safe manner by crossing at the corner or at cross walks. Teacher supervision is also provided at our major crosswalks.
The Community Club rink parking lot is the bus pick up zone after school for our parents to meet their children for pick up. Please refrain from turning around in the driveways, as this is disruptive to the homeowners.
