DR. PATRICK SULLIVAN NAMED SUPERINTENDENT
Dear MPSD community:
I’m writing to share that tonight, my colleagues and I on the School Committee voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Patrick Sullivan as our new Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1.
We’re pleased to welcome Dr. Sullivan home to Marshfield, where he graduated from high school and where he started his career as an educator. After teaching English at MHS, he served as Assistant Principal and then Principal of Furnace Brook Middle School, and in 2017 was hired as Assistant Superintendent in Cohasset. He has served as Superintendent there since 2019.
Dr. Sullivan is a Marshfield resident with 4 kids in the system. He is a passionate, principled, experienced, student-centered leader who is ready to step in and continue to foster the high-quality teaching and learning that we expect in Marshfield.
I want to thank my colleagues on the School Committee for their diligence in this process. Thanks as well to the Search Committee, our leadership team, and to our other exceptional finalist, Ms. Sarah Shannon.
I also want to thank our current Superintendent, Jeff Granatino, for the continued strong leadership he’s provided for Marshfield Public Schools since 2015. We know he will keep working hard for all Marshfield students, families, and staff from now until his retirement on July 1.
Finally, thank you all for your interest and involvement in this important process. Your advocacy for our students and partnership in providing outstanding education is what sets Marshfield apart. You make our community a special place to live and to learn.
Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and healthy holiday season.
Sincerely,
Sean Costello
Chair, Marshfield School Committee
THANK YOU FOR A GREAT 2023
2023 has been a very productive year for the MPSD. With the help of stakeholders around the District, we created a new Strategic Plan, hired two new Principals and just this week, hired a new Superintendent, who will take over on July 1, 2024. In addition, we became a member district to the South Shore Regional Vocational Technical High School.
This year we also opened the Marshfield Early Education Center and added new positions and programs to best meet the needs of all of our students. Ms. Lauren Dargan joined the School Committee in the Spring, replacing Ms. Brigid Boyd, who had served two terms on the Committee. In their annual school reporting, the U.S. News & World Report rated the Governor Winslow School as the 15th best Elementary School in Massachusetts and in that same publication, they rated all of our elementary schools and the FBMS among the "Best Elementary & Middle Schools" in the Commonwealth. While the publication did not rank high schools, the MHS continued to have great success in all disciplines and we saw many students move on to some of the most competitive colleges in the country as a well as a number of students who joined the military to serve our country and some who entered the workforce.
Our clubs and activities continued to shine at all levels and we had a number of musicians and performing artists gain recognition throughout the region. Our athletic teams met success in the winter, spring and fall. We had a number of Patriot League Champions, all-stars and all-scholastic student-athletes. Many of our teams went deep into the MIAA tournaments and late this fall, our Football team, along with our Cheerleaders, Dance Team and Band were a part of the Division 2 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium.
The school leaders and educators across our eight schools thank you every day for allowing us to teach your children. The staff in Marshfield is second to none and they have continued to work to meet the needs of our students and live up to the District mantra of: "Every Student. Every Day. Whatever it Takes."
On a personal note, I want to thank you all for the kind words and support I've received since I announced my pending retirement. The SC has hired a terrific Superintendent in Dr. Sullivan and I know he will keep moving the District in a positive direction. I have been truly blessed to be able to do this job and to work in such a caring community and I look forward to the work ahead of us over the next six months.
The new MPSD Mission Statement notes that, "We are a safe, inclusive and respectful learning community that empowers all to achieve their maximum potential". Throughout 2023, all of our teachers, students and families worked together to ensure we lived up to this expectation. This only happens when a learning community can come together and support the idea that, "We Are Marshfield. Where Everyone Belongs."
Thank you all and we hope you have a happy holiday season and a very happy & healthy New Year.
All the best,
Superintendent Granatino
HOLIDAY CONCERTS AROUND THE DISTRICT
PICTURE OF THE WEEK
There were a number of terrific things going on around the District this week and many of those events were captured on camera. I want to highlight one picture in particular though because of the special meaning it has to me.
We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful relationship with the Marshfield Police Department. In addition, the District is able to have dedicated and caring School Resource Officers (SROs) at all three levels. The picture below embodies how big a part of our school culture our three SRO's have become.
SRO Justin Crowley took time out of his day to chat with one of our students at the MES and walk her to class (on Pajama Day). Though he works for the MPD, he is a big part of the MPSD and this picture shows how important he is to this student. Thank you to all of our SROs and to the Marshfield Police Department. #WeRMarshfield

MEF FALL GIVING CAMPAIGN
We Are Better Together.
The Marshfield Education Foundation (MEF) supports the Marshfield Public School District by providing critical seed funding for grants submitted by teachers for innovative programs that motivate and excite their students and achieve excellence in teaching and learning.
As we enter the season of giving, we hope you’ll consider supporting the Marshfield Education Foundation with a donation to our 4th Annual Fall Giving Campaign. Since 2010, the MEF has been able to fund over 200 grants reaching every school in the District. This would not be possible without generous donations from people like you, our community, and our local business sponsors.
Through the support of the Marshfield community, we have been able to support many innovative and creative programs in coding and robotics, reading and literacy, performing and visual arts, virtual reality and CAD design, physical fitness, and outdoor classrooms. Your donation and support directly impacts the students and teachers of the Marshfield community. Together, we can raise the necessary funds to be able to continue to fulfill our mission of providing innovative and creative programs to the classrooms.
