Cucinella Weekly Wrap-Up #5
Week of October 2, 2023
"THE END OF THE SUMMER IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. HERE’S TO OCTOBER…" – A.A. MILNE
WEEK Six:
This year the Week of Respect took place October 2 – 6. During this time, our students engaged in activities and discussions that emphasized the importance of treating one another with dignity and empathy. They learned that together, they can make our school an even more respectful and inclusive community. Let's spread the spirit of respect throughout our halls and beyond!
The week kicked off with everyone wearing blue shirts to show support for National Bullying Prevention Day. Tuesday the hallways were full of positive role models as our students dressed up like their favorite upstanding characters and super heroes. Wednesday saw the school dressed up in their workout gear to show how we work things out with respect. On Thursday, students and staff proudly showcased their uniqueness through their clothing with our "Different Day" theme. Unfortunately we had to postpone our Fun Run on Friday due to the weather, but the students and staff enjoyed a pajama day as a reward for hitting several fundraising goals. The pajamas helped bring a little bit of warmth to a cool and grey day.
A special shout-out goes to Mrs. McCool, our dedicated school counselor, for orchestrating this fantastic week. And a big thank you to our students and staff for wholeheartedly participating in the dress-up days, demonstrating your unwavering support throughout the week
Fun Run Part 1- On Thursday, our Preschool students participated in the fun run. Students took advantage of the beautiful weather and spent some time outside for a great cause! The students had a lot of fun running around the track while the teachers marked off their laps and cheered them on. There was music, balloons, bubbles, lots of water, and TONS of fun! A special thank you goes out to the Cucinella PTO volunteers who helped to make this an amazing day for our students! We also need to thank Mrs. McCool who spearheaded the Fun Run within the school and kept us pumped with information from start to finish and brought the fun during the day as the MC! Thank you to all of our student participants, all of our parent volunteers, and to all who contributed to this wonderful cause! As of Friday we had raised over $20,000 towards our outdoor learning structure project here at Cucinella. On Tuesday, our Kindergarten through Fifth grade students will get their opportunity to run for this great cause!
Please remember that school is closed tomorrow, Monday October 9th in observance of Indigenous' Peoples and Columbus Day.
RELATED ARTS SCHEDULE: Tuesday starts our Related Arts schedule on a DAY 1.

MAP Testing
This week our First through Third grade students will participate in the NWEA's MAP assessment. The students take two online assessments, one in ELA and one in Math. The results from these assessments allow teachers to gauge current academic levels and identify areas of strength and weakness. This then helps the teachers develop lessons that address the specific needs of their students.
