Mill Valley Weekly
Thursday, December 3, 2020
Hello Mill Valley Families,
It is hard to believe we are in the month of December. The excitement of the season is already evident, as we kick off next week's 12 Days of Holiday Spirit. We are hoping to continue with some of our past traditions, however, they will look different due to our current circumstance in order to continue to Stay Safe to Stay Open.
First of all, we are so thankful to help our families in need through the generous donations that were given in place of our coin wars. Something new this year is our Winter Carol. This will replace our traditional winter concert and all school sing. To find out more about this new event, please see the details below.
Sincerely,
Robin Schrot, Principal
Allyce Harris, Associate Principal
Center For Disease Control (CDC) Optional Quarantine Strategies
The CDC released optional quarantine strategies on December 2, 2020 that allow for a reduction of quarantine time from 14 days to 7 or 10 days if criteria are met. With these strategies, the residual post-quarantine transmission risk is estimated to be about 5% with an upper limit of about 12%.
MNS is obligated to comply with all Waukesha County Department of Public Health (WCPH) COVID guidelines. MNS is in continuous dialogue with Wisconsin DHS, DPI and our partners at WCPH. In communication today, December 3rd, with WCPH we are instructed to await implementation of the CDC optional quarantine strategies until such time that WCPH, Wisconsin DPI and DHS have given the go-ahead.

Destination Imagination
We are so excited to kick off a new season of Destination Imagination in the Muskego Norway School District! DI is an international program that allows kids of all ages to be involved in creative problem-solving. If you participate in DI, you will join a small team with other students from your building to solve an open-ended problem, or “challenge,” and then present your solution at tournaments. This year DI will be mostly virtual. At this point all the tournaments will be virtual. Meetings with team members will be virtual or in person with masks and social distancing at school only. These meetings will take place after school hours or on the weekends at the direction of the team manager. Whether your child participates virtually or in person, they will continue to learn and practice the critical life skills our program was built upon: Creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication. DI is open to students in first through fourth grade at Mill Valley.
**Would your child like to be involved in DI? Before nominating your child, please consider if your child has any of the following criteria:
motivated learner
likes challenges
creative thinker
enjoys expressing self orally
likes to write creatively
likes to draw and make things
**Would you consider being a coach (team manager) and spending more time with your child?
As a coach, your role is to give direction, not to solve the actual problem. The students are to solve the problem as a team.
You will organize meeting dates and times for the students to work on the problem either virtually or in person.
The different challenges are found at this website www.destinationimagination.org. We say “open-ended” because they have no right or wrong answer. It’s up to you and your teammates to decide how to solve your challenge. You will have an adult team manager working with you, but he or she can’t actually tell you what to do… you and your teammates have to figure out your own solution.
Parents if you are interested in more specific information about this after school activity, please join Rachelle Enk and Julie Hetzel (Mill Valley DI Coordinators) for a virtual meeting on Tuesday, December 8th at 6:00pm. Here is the Zoom link for the meeting:
