This Week At SHOJ
Nov. 20, 2020
From Mrs. Rhodes
- "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Does your family have the tradition of saying things they are thankful for during Thanksgiving dinner? As I was lamenting how different my holiday is going to look, I remember being forced to do this in years past. Maybe being a little thankful I wouldn't have to do it this year, I started thinking about what I would say. Is there anything to be thankful for in 2020?
Of course there is and many of these things were surprises brought on by the pandemic. Our SHOJ Counseling department, shared the following: Are you feeling frustrated about all of the restrictions you have upon you right now? Looking for more joy during this confusing time? Try expressing gratitude. Research continues to show how expressing gratitude literally changes you and your brain. “Much of our time and energy is spent pursuing things we currently don’t have. Gratitude reverses our priorities to help us appreciate the people and things we do.” https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/article/item/how_gratitude_changes_you_and_your_brain
How do you do it? It’s as easy as 3-2-1…
Name your stress.
1-5 Rate your level of heaviness it brings you (where 1 is the least and 5 is the most)
Take THREE deep breaths.
Write TWO things for which you are thankful.
Write ONE way God has answered you prayers.
Again, rate your level heaviness from the stress (1-5).
The number should go down. The more you focus on your gratitude and blessings, the better you feel. Check out this Catholic minute…https://youtu.be/UeFi3b-2plo
We Are ONE
Nurse Mary is working hard to be able to answer any questions you may have regarding this pandemic. Please call her with any concern. If she doesn't know the answer, she will find out. Looking at all that is coming at us from the media, can be confusing and make us anxious. This is new for all of us and a calm voice to think through will go a long way for everyone's health and safety.
