Greetings JSE Families,

Hard to believe we are already celebrating our 100 and 101 days of school! All of our kids get excited on these days, remembering their special JSE memories! Reflecting with our students and staff, I am extremely proud of our schoolhouse. We have persevered together with our community: Doing what's best for Every Student...Every Day!

The weather is on all of our minds! Thank you for your patience with our bus drivers, safety is our highest priority, therefore on days of inclement weather routes often run slower. If a school closure is announced please be aware that an eLearning day MAY be considered and would be communicated in the school closure communication from our UTSC superintendent's office.

This is a pertinent time to remind families of the expectations for eLearning days. On eLearning days, students are not expected to get online for live instruction with their teacher during the day. Rather, on an unscheduled eLearning day such as a snow day, teachers will provide students a daily agenda with activities and an assignment list posted in Canvas by 9am. Students are expected to complete the eLearning work before the next school day, however, they are allowed up to three days for completion. Chromebooks will not be sent home for elementary students on eLearning days. eLearning days count for school days, therefore students are considered in attendance when they complete assigned eLearning work and activities. From your child's teacher, look for specific communication pertaining to your child's eLearning day. Teachers are available during school house (9AM-3:30PM) via email and canvas messenger to answer any questions and support your child's learning.

In other Exciting News: Congrats to our Science Bowl Team for their hard work and dedication to learning and mastering new Science Standards! The competition will be online for our team, we know they will represent JSE proudly! Best of luck also to our Robotics Team on Saturday! They are a perfect example of our Learner Characteristic of the Month! A shout out to both Mrs. Asher and Mr. Smith for their coaching and leadership. 3rd-5th grade students have many opportunities to be involved in extra-curricular activities, we value and encourage learning experiences afterschool!

Our school is celebrating the 100 and 101 days of school mark through math and writing activities. Another annual memory for our kids, big and small! Even our resource officer has some learning fun! 100 licks to get to the middle of a Tootsie Pop!

We wanted to send out a reminder that Parenting the Love & Logic Way is set to begin February 7th. We all love our children but wouldn't it be great to get a little help with the common parenting struggles we all face? Solutions for whining, back talk, chores, etc. Join us and add some more tools to your parental tool belt.

This course will be offered virtually and free of charge. Each Monday, participants will be emailed a link with the course content for the week. Links will be live for the entire week allowing participants to watch any time during the week that works best. You can sign up by clicking the link below.

Workbooks for the course are also FREE and will be available for pick up from our office beginning the week of January 31st. Stop by at 2401 Valley Dr, Valparaiso anytime between 8 am - 5 pm to grab your workbook.

• PTO Meetings usually occur the first Tuesday of each month at 6PM. Please consider attending the meetings this year, every JSE parent is welcome and encouraged to attend!

**Masks are optional during the school day and required on the bus.

Recess: Students go out for recess at 10 degrees and above. Please make sure to send a winter coat, gloves, and hat for recess each day. In addition, your child will not be allowed to play in the snow without snow pants and snow boots. Please remember to label your child's clothing items.

Delays and School Closures: You will receive an email and text from UTSC indicating a school delay or closure plan. Make sure we have updated contact information in our system. You may also check our website in the morning for a school closure announcement as well as follow the UTSC twitter account.
