As winter approaches, the Montgomery County School District wants to inform our parents and staff about what takes place when winter weather does arrive. The Montgomery County School District watches the weather very closely in winter. On nights when the weather is forecasted to cause any issues that might impact the safety of our students arriving at school, we are actively assessing the situation by 4:30 a.m. If we can determine school closings the night before, we will let you know about it when the decision is made.

Snow or Ice Events

Closing or releasing school early due to weather is a decision that is not made lightly. There are many implications, so the district works to ensure we are making the best decision possible based on the information we have. The start of school may be closed if conditions are considered to be dangerous. Here is how we make the decision:

• We review the predicted weather patterns through various weather websites and news outlets.

• We review information from the National Weather Service.

• We look closely at the timing of the snow/ice, how much is predicted, how it will impact getting students to/from school, and what type of wind conditions may occur.

• We work closely with our bus service when making this decision. The district Superintendent and bus service owner drive roads in our district to review their conditions.

• We are constantly conversing with other superintendents in neighboring school districts to compare reports.

How You'll Be Notified

• We will post the closing on our District Website.

• We will also post the closing on our District’s Facebook page

• We will use our electronic messaging system (Apptegy/Thrillshare) to contact families about the change in the school schedule.

• Local media (T.V. and Radio Stations) will also be contacted

Our JBE PTO will again be hosting Santa's Workshop for our students who wish to buy presents for their loved ones. This is NOT a fundraiser, all items will be $1! Our PTO wants to provide a way for students to do some shopping on their own this holiday season.

Santa's Workshop will be open December 6th-9th (or while supplies last). IF you wish to send money for your student to shop, please send it in a labeled envelope. It is also helpful if you send a "shopping list" with your student. It helps them remember who they need to buy gifts for when they do their shopping.

JBE is selling Wildcat Spirit Wear as a building fundraiser. The first orders were sent home with students on Friday. Other orders will be delivered early this week.

Jonesburg Elementary will again be celebrating a December to Remember. We are looking forward to celebrating a December to Remember with our students and are super thankful to the community organizations and families that helped make these days possible. Students are invited to participate in any or all of the days that bring them joy!

It's almost time! Our JBE Christmas Concert is coming up on Wednesday, December 7th. The concert will be held at Jonesburg Elementary in our gym. This year ALL grade levels, K-5 will be performing at the following times on the same night. K-1st will be singing at 6:00, 2nd-3rd will be singing at 6:45, and 4th-5th will be singing at 7:30. We will also be offering a matinee performance at the following times. K-1st will be singing at 1:00, 2nd-3rd will be singing at 1:45, and 4th-5th will be singing at 2:30. As always, all plans are subject to change, but at this time the events will not be ticketed.

This year we will be setting up an Art Gallery in the secondary hallway, giving you a visual treat as you stroll down to the photo backdrop area. Just as in a real gallery the student artists have the option to sell their work! The artists will get to experience the real world connection of selling pieces in a gallery, with the gallery and the student both profiting from the sale (all proceeds will go towards the purchase of things to enhance the art curriculum). We welcome you to view their work and support our budding artists with purchases of art that catches your eye! We are excited to share our students’ talents with you and look forward to seeing you at your student's performance.

As always, every grade level has a theme, and we encourage students to dress accordingly.

JBE Larry Richards Club Food Drive from November 15th - 18th. In total our students collected 1,465 items and were able to help 24 families in our community with Thanksgiving Baskets! We want to give a huge Thank You to the Jonesburg Optimist for their help with our food drive and the Thanksgiving Baskets. Mrs. Hillebrand's class donated the most items this year!

The weather is beginning to change. Please make sure that your students are dressed appropriately for the weather. Fresh air and exercise are good for our students so we go outside if we can. Our handbook states that we will go outside unless outside temperatures are 20 degrees or less or the outside temperature when combined with the wind chill factor is 20 degrees or less.

The Montgomery County R-II Science Fair will be on Thursday, January 12, 2023. Students interested in participating in the Science Fair this year will need to contact Mrs. Angel Davis (JBE Librarian) to get a Science Fair packet. Science Fair permission forms are due back to school by Friday, December 2nd. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Angel Davis.

Don't forget to return your Big Smile Missouri form if you would like your student to be seen. Permission forms are due back to school by Tuesday, November 22.

On Tuesday, November 22nd we celebrated our JBE Family with our first ever all school Thanksgiving Feast. With the help of several volunteers and all hands on deck from the staff we were able to seat and serve all of our students at one time. We spent an hour together sitting with our Class Comrades eating, visiting, coloring and celebrating what we are thankful for! It was awesome to see our older students take our younger students under their wing and be great role models!

Help us recognize the great things happening at MCR2 by filling out the Wildcat Award Nomination Form when you notice a staff member doing great things!

The district will be recognizing our outstanding staff members again this year with monthly Wildcat Awards, and at the end of the year reception. Please nominate as many of our staff as you wish for a Wildcat Award.

Like last year, Wildcat Awards will be given each month and all nominees will receive their notes at our end of the year celebration!

We have partnered with USAgain to collect clothes and shoes. This company will pay us 2 cents for every pound collected and will plant a tree (somewhere, not on our property) for every full bin. The bins are located on the southwest corner of our building. We will start spreading the word to the community soon and hope it will help the earth and raise a bit of money for our donation account.

Jonesburg Elementary Meal Reminder

1. Meals are not free for everyone this year.

2. We encourage you to fill out a Free & Reduced Meal application to see if you qualify.

3. If you do not qualify and your student eats meals at school the fees are as follows:

1. Full price breakfast - $2.85

2. Full price lunch - $3.25

3. Reduced price breakfast - $0.30

4. Reduced price lunch - $0.40

4. Extra milk and milk break costs $0.45 per student no matter the free and reduced status.

5. Students are not allowed to charge more than $10. If your student owes more than $10 then they will be offered an alternative meal in lieu of the daily lunch choice.

6. Please send in meal money in a labeled envelope. If you are interested, there is an option to pay online through the online SIS portal.

7. Past due balances will be sent home most Friday’s.

8. District phone call reminders for balances under $5 will begin soon. You are welcome to send in money at any time.

10. We will have a drawing on Friday, September 9th for all students whose families turned in a Free & Reduced Lunch application at any of the MCR2 buildings this school year.

This is a reminder that only students & staff will be allowed in the building during morning drop-off time. The entrance by the powercat will be open at 7:30. The drop-off line is for people to pull up, drop off and drive away. You are welcome to walk your student to the front door. If you wish to get out with your student, please park in a spot to do so. Parking in the drop-off line creates confusion and is not safe for our students.

It is important that you have a consistent routine for your child to follow at the end of each day. If you need to make a change to your child’s normal routine you must send a note with your child in the morning.

In an emergency, you may call, but you MUST speak to a secretary before 2pm. Do not leave a message on the school answering service. The answering service is to report absences only, and it is not checked throughout the day. ONLY call in the event of an emergency. A note should be sent if you know in advance of a schedule change.

We will not make any changes after 2pm. Our goal is to get every student safely to their correct destination at the end of each day. We need your help to make sure this happens.

The 2022-2023 MCR-II School Calendar has been approved. Please note that the last day of school for the 2022-2023 will be a 12:30 P.M. early out.

Don't forget that your student can log onto their Moby Max account from home as well as school. If you need your student's login information, please contact your student's teacher.

This online remediation and practice program is one way that we can continue closing the gap on lost information from last spring.

The Box Tops program has made it easier to collect Box Tops and support your school.
