Seguin Update for Parents - October 28, 2020
NEW SCHEDULE BEGINNING NOV. 2
Greetings Seguin Nation,
In an effort to provide the best service possible, we are constantly evaluating our systems and trying to improve them based on student needs. With that in mind, I want to alert you to a change in the class schedules beginning on Monday, November 2.
Beginning Monday, November 2, classes will go to a "sandwich model" - where the asynchronous time is "sandwiched" in between the live synchronous times. The new class times will be structured as such:
Synchronous Time - 25 mins
Asynchronous Time - 50 mins
Synchronous Time - 25 mins
Students will spend the same amount of time in class. However, the class will start and end with live synchronous times. We believe that this will allow for more accountability with the learning and will allow teachers to more easily assist students during the class period. Students will now be able to get help immediately after the lesson takes place and end the class with clarification around the learning.
In addition to changing the order of the asynchronous and live synchronous times, we will also be moving to a Flipped classroom model. If you are unfamiliar with a Flipped Classroom model, the basic idea is that part of the lessons will be recorded in video format for your student to view online prior to class. These lessons are usually no longer than 20 minutes, or so, in length.
The student can, and should, replay each video lesson as often as needed to understand the concept. This is one major advantage of video recording the lessons. Your student can also review the video lessons whenever they like, for example, prior to a test.
In class, the teacher will be working with the students on the exercises they would have been given as homework. This is possible since the "lecture" part of class is now done through the video lessons and viewed outside of class.
The Flipped Class reduces the stress traditional homework creates. It allows the teacher to spend more time with your student on an individual and group basis.
Teaching and learning in a pandemic is new to everyone. It is our focus, however, to provide the best support possible to our students. We are anticipating that these changes will help our students be more successful.
Below is the new schedule that will begin on Monday, November 2.
Thank you, again, for all of your support!
