Community Crew News #20
January 7th, 2024
Happy New Year Conway Community!
I hope you all had time to connect, recharge and you feel ready to return this week. With the New Year, comes new opportunities for change, growth, and excellence. Our Conway Crew looks forward to the year ahead and excited to welcome back our learners.
Together we will be ready for challenges and achievements that are bound to come. We look forward to your continued support and commitment to expeditionary model and especially our spirit of crew that creates an undeniable feeling of connectedness and care as we achieve more than we thought possible together. We truly believe that WE ARE CREW, NOT PASSENGERS.
This week students return on Tuesday and we cannot wait to welcome them all back.
On Thursday, Dens return for our monthly meeting and DENS take the place of our weekly Crew Celebration assembly. Dens are multi-age crews that meet monthly with their den leader/teacher. These students remain with the same leader and students during all the their years at Conway. It's a very special structure for relationship building as our older learners mentor our younger learners during this time. This is unique to Conway and I encourage families to ask your learner about DENS. As an Expeditionary Learning School, the tradition of crew is both a culture and a structure. Crew impels us to work together and to support everyone's learning and growth and Dens is another one of those structures that deepen connections. This practice is deeply connected to our EUSD Framework for the Future and our Expeditionary Learning model.
Mid-Year EPIC awards are also approach quickly. Communication will be coming home from teachers. Please Save the Date! Finally, this Friday is a minimum day with a 12:10pm dismissal and Monday is a federal holiday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr Day.
As we begin this year, it gives me great joy to welcome a new member to our Conway Crew. Daisy Arroyo is Conway's new social worker. She is an Escondido resident and has a passion for working with our learners and our community. Please read more about Miss Arroyo below.
Communication is extremely important for our EPIC school. Please make sure to scroll all the way through the weekly message. If you miss a message, you can view all communication on our website under "NEWS".
I am grateful for the opportunity to inspire students to discover their unlimited potential through Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, and Compassion. Together we are creating an EPIC school.
We are in this together and believe, We Are Crew, not passengers.
Always in crew,
Tina Meglich, Principal
Principal Weekly Update #20
Meet our new Social Worker!
Hello! My name is Ms. Daisy and I am the new school social worker Conway! I'm so excited to work with all of you and am grateful to be a part of your school.
I was born and raised in Escondido and graduated from San Pasqual High School, so this community means the world to me. My fiancee Erick is a teacher and I will be getting married this May, YAY! I have a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work. I have worked with kids since I was 18 and started at the YMCA, I actually worked with one student from Conway as the YMCA's first inclusion aide. I have also worked with youth in the foster system as a residential facility counselor and as an independent living skills case manager, which was one of the most rewarding positions I've had. I chose this career path because I have a special place in my heart for students. Their resiliency is inspiring and their ability for growth is amazing to see and be a part of. School was also one of my safe spaces growing up, which made a world of difference for me, so I work hard to make sure it is a safe space for our students as well. I look forward to meeting all of you! See you soon

School of Choice is open!
EUSD School of Choice Transfer Applications for 2024-2025 school Year is now Live! Typically, students attend the schools that serve the neighborhood attendance areas in which they live. However, EUSD does provide attendance options for parents and students in order to help meet the diverse needs and interests of students within the district. Students may apply for a School Choice Intradistrict Transfer to any school in the district. Submitting an application for School Choice does not guarantee enrollment in the desired school(s). Students who submit a school choice application by January 31, 2024, will be included in a random, unbiased lottery drawing. You will be notified by email during Spring 2024 regarding the results of the lottery. Your child’s application either will be approved or placed on a waiting list following the School Choice lottery. You will receive notification as to when the wait list is closed for the current school year, and you will be provided information as to how to submit a School Choice application for the following year. A separate application must be completed for each student who is applying for School Choice. A student who has a sibling(s) who is already attending a school of choice must also apply for School Choice and be approved in order to have the siblings attend the same choice school. Students who attend another school under the School Choice option are not provided transportation. If you would like to learn more about a specific EUSD school before submitting your application, you can visit our schools page by clicking on the link below. https://registration.powerschool.com/family/ActionForms/Public/38522 If you would like assistance submitting a School of Choice application, please visit our Family Engagement Center in Room 5 or contact Xochitl Maldonado at (760) 432-2435 EXT 12005.

Birthday Announcements
You may ask how do we celebrate birthdays at Conway?
We have two unique ways that we celebrate.
First, in the main office you can fill out a form to have your child's birthday acknowledged on our electronic marquee to display a 24 hour message. The cost is only $5. If you cannot make it into the office, you can complete the electronic form https://forms.gle/3dMLHhiK5MTXJdpL9
and send in $5 cash and send it in with your learner. If it is a surprise please put it in an envelope addressed to the Conway ASB.
Second, our office staff has added a fun way to acknowledge each student's birthday. Students can visit the office for a special birthday pencil and cougar paw.
