Congratulations to Ms. Norriss, Dr. Bruderer, Mr. Williams, Mr. Llamas, Ms. Stewart, Ms. Jaime, Ms. Agosto, Mr. Plunk and Ms. Nevin-Armstrong for organizing and preparing our students for an amazing SCPA Extravaganza. Our student performances were awesome and well over 700 6th grade students from all around the South Bay enjoyed the show.

Additionally, we would also like to thank Ms. Peralta, Principal from Chula Vista High School for hosting our show, Ms. Daisy Heard and Mirna Garcia for organizing bus transportation for close to 800 students and to Ms. Meza for helping to make the show a reality.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2nd, the birthday of Dr. Seuss. The annual event is part of Read Across America, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association. Since the event is designed to encourage reading in children and is fostered through the schools, when March 2nd lands on a weekend, the day is observed on the closest school day.

This motivational and awareness day calls all children and youth in every community across the United States to celebrate reading. It encourages them to read where ever they are. Great ways to inspire reading in children include:

• Keep books everywhere you spend time. Put them in the car, in every room of the house and tuck them in backpacks and purses. Make them easily accessible.
• Visit the library often. Knowing how to use the library and learning the benefits of a library fosters a love of reading as well as a genuine respect for the services libraries provide.
• Get caught reading. Children imitate what they see the adults around them do. Whether they see you read a magazine, newspaper or novel, let them know reading is the cool thing to do.
• Read to your children. No matter their age, reading aloud strengthens their vocabulary and language skills. It also opens up opportunity for discussion.
• Have your children read to you, too. You never know what you might learn!

Please remember that school safety is everyone's responsibility. If you see something that doesn't look right, say something to a trusted adult. If you have information and would like to report it, but remain anonymous, you can use the P3 Tips App. The App is free to download fro the iTunes store and you can have it on your school issued iPad too. It's easy to set up and your tips go straight to San Diego Crime Stoppers. Lawn enforcement works with school administration and will even issue a reward if your tip leads to an arrest or even school disciplinary consequences.

We will conduct a secure campus and lockdown drill on Tuesday March 3rd during advisory. Please take time on Monday to review the procedures and expectations with your advisory students on Monday March 2nd.

We will have our monthly FAC meeting this Monday March 2, 2020 after school in room 108.
