Principal Message
Wow, what an amazing first couple of days. I am feeling giddy to be the Oak Principal! Yesterday was such an exciting day for our students and staff. We had a great time getting to know your children. I shared with students the CARES (Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self Control) traits we are using to guide expectations on the playground and in class.
In addition, we continue to ensure high levels of learning for ALL students. We are in the third year of a collaborative early release day, where we meet together every Thursday to look at students’ individual performance and needs. Teachers work together to plan around these needs.
When waiting for your children between dismissals, we ask that you wait under the Solar Panel covered picnic area. Please designate a spot to meet your child at the picnic tables that are covered. This will help our students attending class until 3:00 pm, focus better, as well as keep our campus more secure. If you are picking up your students by car, please follow the carline rules and exercise caution -- we have already almost had two accidents in the parking lot.
Please make sure to send hats, water bottles and have students wear sunscreen. Although we are making our way into autumn, it is still sunny and warm during recess and lunch.
Parents, please check in at the office when on campus. If your child has forgotten their lunch or backpack, please bring it to the office and we will deliver it to your student. Please do not go directly to the classroom. We want to keep instructional zones clear of unnecessary adult traffic (this becomes a distraction to our students) as well as being a safety issue of having unauthorized people on campus. Thank you for your help and understanding in keeping Oak School safe, secure, and free of unnecessary disruptions.
I hope to see your children and family at the “Stay and Play” tomorrow after school!
PTA President's Message
Dear Oak Community,
Welcome and welcome back! It was great to see so many of you at our Back to School Social on Sunday, and once again at our Volunteer Coffee yesterday morning. I love seeing our play structure filled with kids climbing and laughing and having fun together, while parents have an opportunity to catch up and meet new families.
As you begin to settle into the new year, please take note of the following important reminders:
BACK-TO-SCHOOL FORMS AND DIRECT ASK CAMPAIGN
Please take a few minutes to fill out the Back to School forms! This is the easiest way to join the PTA, participate in our Birthday book club, and purchase a yearbook for your child. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to our “Direct Ask” fundraising campaign, Oak’s largest fundraiser. Every year, the PTA relies on your generous donations to support many of the programs and supplies our students and teachers rely on, including technology and software, flexible seating in classrooms, Starting Arts, PE & Recess equipment, classroom libraries, staff development and so much more. We are truly grateful for your support in keeping these programs running for our students.
Does your employer match charitable donations and/or volunteer hours?
STAY-N-PLAY/JAMBA JUICE THIS FRIDAY
Celebrate the first week of school with our Jamba Juice Stay-N-Play, this Friday, August 23, from 2:40 - 4:00pm. Enjoy playtime on the playground and blacktop, and cool off with a Jamba Juice, available for $4 (cash only). Proceeds support the Oak PTA.
DON’T FORGET TO ORDER HOT LUNCH
Hot Lunch is available for Oak Students Monday - Friday through ChoiceLunch. Lunch service begins on Monday, August 26th. Visit the ChoiceLunch website to learn about their offerings, create an account, and order lunches. Lunches must be ordered by 9am this Sunday, August 25th for lunch on the 26th.
We rely on parent volunteers for our Hot Lunch service. The Hot Lunch program would not be possible without the 17-20 volunteers per week that come in to serve our children. The lunch volunteer shift runs from 11:35-12:50 pm. We are still seeking Hot Lunch volunteers! Whether you are available once a month or once a week, we would love to have you join the team. All hot lunch volunteers will receive a lunch credit for a free lunch for each shift worked. To volunteer to serve lunch, or if you’d like more information about Hot Lunch, email oakschoollunch@gmail.com.
OAK LIFESAVERS
Every day, dedicated parent volunteers and Oak staff go above and beyond to support our children, our families, and our community. We want to take a moment each week to thank these Oak Lifesavers. Many thanks to:
- Jen Oku and Andi Lorincz, for all of the work and effort they dedicated to planning and hosting our wonderful Back to School Social and Welcome Coffee & Volunteer Fair. Their organization, planning, and attention to detail made these two events a warm and welcoming way to kick off the school year!
- Lesley Lint, who put in the hours necessary to create our online Back to School forms--testing, making fixes, and double and triple-checking everything!
- Viju Sharma, our new Webmaster, for all her hard work updating the Oak website, and making edits and changes quickly whenever needed.
- Angela Kristovich, Katie DeDominicis, and Anu Vadhan - our New Family Committee, for all the time and dedication they put into welcoming new families into the Oak community throughout the summer.
- Pam Smith, for once again organizing our after-school enrichment program. It is great to have so many wonderful enrichment opportunities for our kids!
I am looking forward to working with you this school year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
